Sony Handcam DCR SR55E
Review of Sony Handycam DCR SR55E by
Kulsum
Advantages: Easy to use
Disadvantages: Less than attractive appearance
I have been using this product for a lengthy period of time, and have found it easy to use, despite my lack of technical experience. I was abl e to use all features with little difficulty, and feel that the price is suitable for the quality of both the product itself and the photos it priduces. It is a perfect size, and easy to carry around, therefore for holiday travellers, it is perfect for making photos to remember your holiday times.
I have ...

Pro-sumer Choice - HDR-FX7E Video Camera
Review of Sony HDR-FX7E by
bananamanuk
Advantages: HDMI, Manual Settings, Large LCD Screen, Quality steady shot, Battery Life
Disadvantages: No XLR Input, Battery charges on camera
...2001 I've been using the Sony VX2000E camera, which was labelled as a pro-sumer model because unlike a small compact handicam, the VX2000E was the top end of Sony's consumer models. Anyone that buys a car knows that if you are ever fortunate enough to buy a brand new car, you always want to try and stay at that level, well the same is true for me and cameras, I'd got the best that I could afford back then and when considering what to replace it with, ... ...again.
The Sony HDR FX7E was my answer. There are numerous settings on the camera, and I would expect that anyone serious on buying a camera like this, would be looking for more detailed technical reviews than I can possibly put here. However, this review aims to be a broad overview of what the camera offers and how it performs in my view therefore I hope it is of use.
CONSUMER/PRO-SUMER/PROFESSIONAL.

Not all it looks
Review of Sony HVR-Z1E by
crware
Advantages: Good 16x9 picture
Disadvantages: Heavy, too many buttons
...the quality is good but Sony still insist on putting vague controls for focus and iris control - there is no distance scale on the focus ring. The iris control is the fiddly little silver knob you can see in the picture. Headphone feed: as with all Sony camcorders the volume on the headphone socket is insufficient. Weight: this is a heavy beast - if you\'re thinking of operating hand-held for more than 3 minutes, think again. You cannot put this ... ...camera, with manual controls designed as an afterthought. If you are a pro looking for a proper, manual control creative device I would suggest looking at similar priced Canon products, or spend more and go for a Sony camera that takes interchangeable broadcast quality lenses and sits on your shoulder. ...

I'm Ready For My Close-Up
Review of Sony Handycam DCR DVD106E by
AlanWhite
Advantages: Brilliant optical zoom, easy to use controls, comfortable in the hand
Disadvantages: Slight noise transferred to sound when zooming quickly
...in a quick ad recommending Sony disks if you aren't using one. A minor annoyance, and easily ignored as it only lasts a few seconds.
Blank DVDs are formatted in the camera, which should be kept vibration-free for the 2 minutes or so this takes. However, holding it in my reasonably steady hand has been fine. Once the DVD is full, it takes the camera about 20 seconds to finalise it - again, keep the thing steady. I haven't tried re-using a DVD yet, ... ...good. The camera starts to show warnings when you have about 4 minutes of recording time left.
Battery life seems good, and meets the quoted 60-min time. There's an on-screen battery life indicator that you can turn off if you want to. I think I'll definitely invest in extra batteries and an in-car charger, because I can see me using this a lot while I'm out and about.
The only negative thing I've noticed so far is that rapid zooming can cause ...
