Advantages: Lightweight small ease of use Disadvantages: limited features
I purchased this camera last week. Its very easy to use, it also has a switch for nightshot mode which allows one to capture whats going on in the dark. If you don't want to spend too much on a camera this is the one you should go for. Another feature i like is that you can drag and drop the mpeg movie files from the camera to your pc, the camera registers as an external hard drive. The camera is light weight so for day trips etc its perfect!

...the plunge and buy the Canon HF10. Having spent a few days getting to know this product I an very pleased with the camcorder in general and the results, its not perfect, but certainly one of the best flash memory camcorders available. The palm sized unit is small and despite its plastic case seems to be reasonably well built. I find it very easy to use, although Canons menu syatem is a bit different to what I have seen on thier still cameras. Image ... ...is fast, image stabilisation (optical) also seems to work very well.
The camera has 16gb of internal storage built in and accepts SD cards for additional capacity. Battery life is OK around 60-70 minutes, I got a spare battery to be on the safe side (higher capacity batteries are available but stick out of the rear of the camara and spoil the lines). ...for someone who hasn't used sony touch screens before.
Another great feature is the option to switch between 16:9 and 4:3 as although no HD tvs are 4:3 it can add great effect if you are making a movie.

- Also the camera is supplied with a dock that provides USB connectivity.
The camera can capture 8 hours at full resolution so should be plenty for a weekend away although for a two week holiday ... ...The camera also incorporates 10x optical zoom which will not lower the quality of image and allow the full 1080i resolution to capture images a long way away.
Overall a great camera for capturing those family moments although the touch screen might be hard to use for someone new to sonys. ...

...If you have a Canon printer, then you can connect this directly to it to do your printing. There is no PC needed for this. Or PictBridge lets you do the same with a PictBridge compatible printer.
To connect this to your computer, you can use USB and IEEE1394 Firewire connectivity to make transferring images to your computer as easy as possible.
There are a few improvements that I think Canon needs to improve. These are…
1) 8M fore a secure digital ... ...tape handling is fine, but Canon must take on board the lessons that have been learned by other manufacturers and stop using a bottom-loading tape mechanism. There is a poor low-light performance which isn't really expected with a small CCD. The CCD smear is a serious problem when shooting high-contrast videos. If you want a good camcorder then this is a good one to own, but you may want to take a look at the Panasonic MX500 which addresses the tape-loading ...

Advantages: It's not a Sony Disadvantages: I haven't got the money for a second one
First impressions was that it was better than I had hoped for! The styling, weight and general appearance was what I expected for £800 (bought November 2007 but I did have to shop around to find one at that price).
All the reviews I read about the poor electronic stabilization were right! If you want to hand hold it be prepared for some pretty poor results. Anticipating this I invested in a decent tripod, jib and steadicam (from B Hague's) so I ... ...but thankfully there is a mic input so I use an external Rode stereo videomic which produces great results.
The ability to plug in an external screen makes using the jib simple.
When I read the spec and saw the 60 Gb HDD I thought I'd never use all that ... last weekend I was left with just 20 minutes of space left at full HD recording!
The files are recorded in .TOD format which, as I understand is almost the same as mpeg2 but you have to use ...
