Sony Handycam DCR SR75e, a good general purpose Hard Disk camera
Advantages: Small, easy to use, big storage capacity

Cracking camera, no tapes, no fuss (Sony Handycam DCR SR75)
Advantages: Great quality video, ease of use, chic design
