A simple easy to use camera at a good price Advantages: Inexpensive, decent picture, small size Disadvantages: Not as good as Sony cams ...to show for my adventures. JVC in my mind had a reputation of being quite average. After shopping around and talking to the nice people at Dixons and Curry’s I decided to give the JVC GR-D70 a shot. Design: The size of this camera was a refreshing breath of fresh air for me, but I guess that is because I got used to lugging around my old monstrosity of a camera. Compared to my artsy friend’s super-cool latest Sony it’s actually quite bulky and ... ...grand for it. It’s weight and size are very manageable and the design is quite practical. All the buttons are easily accessible so you don’t need to take your eyes of the viewfinder trying to find that zoom button. JVC GR D53 Advantages: Home filming, clear picture Disadvantages: price maybe ! JVC GR D53 This mini DV camcorder, has very good picture and sound quality. The images are very clear when filmed with this camera it has an image resolution that is very high. The camera it self is a good sizes and weight. Zoom ----------------------------------------------------- It has a 16x optical lens this lets you zoom in (basically take close up shots from where you are standing) on your subject with and still maintain a very high quality ... ...filming quality that allows you to film close ups from an even further distance out. A great camera till disaster struck Advantages: Lightweight ,good clarity of pictures and sound,easy to use , well known make Disadvantages: Not cheap ...indicator remains contact your nearest JVC dealer . Now here's the rub , we returned to the dealer who was not helpful at all even though it is a specialist camera store. We had purchased from Jessop's , feeling there would be support here if needed . He did all the things we had tried with the camera to no avail . He said he could return it to JVC but they charged about £250 , as standard for any such returns. Obviously JVC don't want to encourage ... ...performance. We have had a JVC stereo for years so feel happy with the brand but probably would not choose them for a digital video camera again. If there is not adequate back-up when things go wrong it is not worth it .I f this was an isolated incident with the cassette , then the camera would get an excellent rating. JVC CAMCORDER Advantages: COMPACT Disadvantages: NO LIGHT ...in my experience have found JVC cameras to be most reliable. Although they don't have quite as many features as some other makes, such as special effects and a light, I have found that there is less to go wong when you want a camera for normal everyday use. I have found that although the extra features on the other camcorders sound good at the time for everyday use you only end up using a couple. The picture and sound quality is excellent and I find ... ...this camcorder very easy to use which is very important. Although a light would have been useful a lot of the time it is unecessary as it picks up really well even in the most subdued lighting. A modern camcorder without breaking the bank! Advantages: Small camcorder and small price! Disadvantages: Can be a bit fidly at times. ...it to a computer). The JVC DX range has expanded significantly since then, but I notice that the newer models seem to only have a maximum optical zoom of 10x (compared to 16x for this one). Technical Stuff: Skip ahead to the "Performance:" section if you're not going to connect you camcorder to a computer. Firstly, this camcorder DOES NOT support DV-in (i.e. you can't record back to it from your computer once you've edited your video) ... ...replacement batteries, let alone genuine JVC ones. These should give closer to 3 hours usage (but it's hard for me to say if they do as I never tried using it for 3 hours in one go yet). Charging time is approximately the same as the running time and done with the battery in the camcorder.
