A Rough Guide to the Viewcam Z
Advantages: Tiny, standard features, good quality, and cheap. Disadvantages: Inadequate battery life, and the doom of the 'DEW' error!
...In such a tiny gadget Sharp manage to fit a whole lot of camera. Albeit not the best digital videocamera on the market, but definitely one of the best in this price range. The Viewcam Z features tight, responsive focus, a clear screen and a comfy grip. The size means that it will literally fit in the palm of the average adult's hand when you're olding it, giving you easy access to all the vital buttons. It also swivels, oh yes- so you can be holding ... ...can be a problem. When Sharp were building these machines they neglected the fact that metal expands in heat, and placed a circuit designed for detecting moisture way too close together. This means that in some cameras, heat will cause the two contacts of the damp sensor to touch inadvertadly. This means the camera succumbs to the paralysing and most-annoying 'DEW' error (go ahead, google it).
This happened to me several times before I looked it ...

Sharp Viewcam VL-A10H
Advantages: Easy to use menu displayed on screen, good quality picture, has optical zoom rather than digital Disadvantages: a bit large on size somewhat heavy, no viewing lens just a screen
This is generally a good all round camcorder I have read reviews that the LCD screen can get dirty with fingermarks etc, but that can be easily cleaned with a damp tissue, it has excellent quality of picture and colour when you view the tape back, its a good buy if you want optical zoom rather than the digital that is offerred nowadays, as optical zoom allows the zoom on the whole picture not just digital enhancement. You can also find the manual ... ...The menus are aesy to navigate through and it has quite a few photo features, i still haven't figured out how you can take still shots on it, but I was told that you could.
The only downfalls I would say are the size and the fact that the battery cannot be charged unless it is in the camera and the camera is not being used, there is no seperate charger. I would recommend if you want a decent product but not if you want one of those tiny flashy camcorders ...

The Sharp VL-WD 250
Advantages: Great zoom Disadvantages: Slightly larger than your average
This Sharp is easy to use, the LCD menu is straightforward and the buttons on the side of the camera allow quick access to features.
The zoom is excellent zoom, and with the help of a tripod, Ive been able to zoom right up close to the birds at the end of our 70ft garden, without losing quality. It is slightly larger than your average camera, but I think this is due to the amount of machinery required to provide 26x optical zoom, and not suffer ...

Sharp at the Cutting Edge!
Advantages: Comfortable to use, excellent output, packed with features Disadvantages: Dodgy menu buttons, below average battery life
Sharp Viewcams have always been linked with home movies as far back as I can remember. So what’s the hurry, why should we rush out and buy this new offering? The bottom line: You will possibly not find a smaller and more useful camcorder in the Sharp range or any other, for that matter.
The Z series is, according to Sharp, is their newest range in Digital Camcorders and incorporates cutting edge technology in a very small, light weight chassis.... ... ...average battery life – fortunately Sharp have included 2 as standard.
Right, now that’s off my chest… down to what this camera has to offer. Ladies and gentlemen you are reading a review of one of the most comfortable and easy to use cameras I have ever used so far in all my time as a gadget freak!
ERGONOMICS AND LOOKS
A slight plasticity feel to the body but feels tough and well constructed with the Sharp logo embossed on the side. The thumb ...

OK camcorder, but superb webcam!
Advantages: Relatively cheap, Hi-8, budget video camera Disadvantages: Only 16X zoom, now out of date hardware
...yet functional camcorders.
The Sharp Viewcam VL-AH131H was at the time not the newest kid on the block, nor the smallest, but it has done more than I wanted and for the price (a little over £150), it was a bargain.
My camcorder mostly sits on my desk, attached via the video out to my WinPC card within my PC, making it into a Webcam. Fantastic for showing all my imperfections in glorious detail or very very close up! Before spending hundreds of ... ...to your PC, as even the worst camcorder is better than most webcams picture quality!
The Hi8 recording format is not the best recording format, and has been superceded by digital recording formats, but for anyone who just wants to capture the moment on a budget, and isn't woried by the odd bit of analogue interference on tapes which have already been used and re-used again, then this is the camera for you!
The camera has a 3 inch viewing screen, ...
