Camileo S10 Camcorder : Neighbour's Envy - Owner's Pride

Advantages: X'tal Clear HD Video, 8Mp Stills, No Frills Shooting, 32Gb SD Card, HDMI Cable, Easy 2 Edit
Disadvantages: NONE, for this price range. (Poor Low Light? Every mini camcorder is)

I bought my Camileo S10 few days back, did some heavy duty shooting around and let me assert here that this is a preety good camcorder. I took a whole day, visiting various retailers, testing the Sony Webbie, Kodak Zx1, Aiptek z700, Xacti CG10 and the Camileo P30 & S10, besides the Samsung ST550 [TL225 elsewhere] (a Digital Camera doing 720p HD). These were the compact camcorders available here (Flip Ultra HD, Samsung U10 & Kodak Zi8 are not yet ...
...to: 1. Great form factor. 2. Lightest among all. 3. *Best HD clips (2nd was Aiptek z700). 4. *2nd best Still shots (best was Aiptek z700), but very-very good. 5. **Li-ion Battery (keeps the device slimmer). 6. ***Upto 32 Gb SD Card compatible. 7. Got an 8 Gb SD card free from the store. 8. Similar priced; under USD 160/- [the CG10 is a bit costlier (and the P30 is no better, but bigger)]. 9. HDMI port (a must, so that we enjoy Full HD footage ...

Toshiba Camileo Pro

Advantages: Easy to use, small and light, fantastic battery life, great video quality, optical zoom.
Disadvantages: Hopeless sound on recorded clips, barely audible on PC.

At first glance this Toshiba seems to be the ideal small pocket camcorder, it has many great functions including optical zoom. The first one I purchased suffered from an intermittent screen and low sound, this was replaced with no fuss and the second Camileo proved to be a lot more reliable, very good quality video recordings can be made and the controls are simple and well laid out for ease of operation. However the sound is extremely poor on ...
...than about six feet from camera will not be heard, even narration from the camera user is extremely low and poor quality, this is a great shame as the camera is superb otherwise, I have borrowed a third Camileo and find that the sound is completely hopeless on it too, seems this is a problem on this range. I would not advise buying one if you need decent audio, apart from that they work well. PS The form below states Remote Control adequate, there ...

Even I can use this! Great quality film and big hard drive.

Advantages: 20 hr hard drive & expandable flash, good zoom, great ergonomics, very small, light and tough
Disadvantages: screen a little bit fiddly, very poor stills,

My husband and I bought this video camera after our first daughter was born when we were baffled by the variety of cameras on offer. We needed something that we could actually pick up and use quickly to capture first steps etc. I must say that we were not dissapointed. The camera is very easy to use with great ergonomics that put the controls at your fingertips, it's also very light. It's so small you can slip inside a coat pocket easily enough! ...
...fo fairly regular filming and has never let us down. The downsides are that the touch screen menu is a bit fussy. You need to be very precise when selecting options. And the still photo quality is very poor so I would not recommend this if you want both photo and film. The menus are easy to follow and set up is quite simple. The hard disk suits us as it means the camera is smaller and you can use it out of the box with the Playstation 3 and we ...

Sony Handycam DCR-DVD105E

Advantages: cheap and easy to use
Disadvantages: DVD disks unreliable and difficult to import video to PC

Found this camcorder very easy to use the controls were very user friendly. Single record stop button and zoom in and out toggle switch. You have the option to use the viewer or the pull out LCD screen whilst recording. The LCD screen can be flip around 180 degrees to allow playback and editing of the stored clips. Video quality is not bad for the 800k pixel sensor, it does struggle in poor light though. The camera snap feature is poor resolution. ...
...they are 1.5Gb and hold about 30mins of footage, you can get double sided ones which help a bit. I had big problem trying to get the video on to my PC to back up and I lost full dvds with the disks going faulty and being unable to read. Very unreliable I don’t use it any more going to get a hard drive base camera. ...

GOOD STARTER CAMERA

Advantages: Adaptable to wide range of lighting situations
Disadvantages: Audio - mini jack input only

As a video artist I wanted to find a camera that could deliver great audio and visual quality for a cheap price. I have to be honest and say I couldnt be happier with my purchase. The camera has great HD capabilities and works well in most lighting. It performs highest when lighting is used however performs well in bad lighting situations too. Although a HD camera I would advise people to shoot on SD tape as HD tape is really inconsistent in terms ...
...good is the fact it has focus rings. This means that professional hardware such as focus rings can be used on this model. As a result the cameras high level of image quality can be matched by controlled focusing. It however can not be used to manipulate professional audio hardware as easily. To input three pin mics you need to buy a hot shoe adapter to slide into the top of the camera and then buy a ire that has a three pin socket on one side and ...
