No.1 - How to get there!
It really is easy to find the place. Once in London, travel to Camden Town tube station on the Northern Line and take the left exit out of the station (don't stare at the shouty drunks). The World's End pub is just across the road. Cross the road and adjacent to the pub entrance you should see the entrance to the Underworld itself, with an archetypal cramped ticket booth next to it. You make your way downstairs and there you are, you're in the venue.
The fact that the World's End is literally just on top of it makes it even more convenient, as there is usually plenty of space in this large pub to sit and relax for a couple of hours before the gig.
The Underworld itself also boasts a couple of bars, which are not particularly expensive and have all the usual concotions one might expect from a bar. The stage itself, and the floor area in front of it, really are quite small, but provided it isn't too crowded you can also get an excellent view from the surrounding (raised) walkway.
One of the things I like best about the Underworld, though only when it's not too crowded, is the ability to get right up close to the band and really feel immersed in the music. This is something you certainly can't experience when you're at Wembley Stadium "enjoying" cold, commercial offerings on a platter and watching tiny stick figures on what looks from a distancfe like a toy stage.
Bands I've seen at the Underworld include:
Last Rites Passion Play Mantra Dream Disciples Vast
... and many others. Ticket prices are generally fairly cheap (okay, that's partly because the bands generally aren't the biggest names in music- but who cares, if they're good?), there's always a good atmosphere there and the music is loud without making your ears explode.
Advantages: Intimate, interesting venue in good location Disadvantages: Fairly high (but typical London) drink prices and pillars in the pit area
Camden Underworld is located directly opposite Camden Town underground station on the Northern Line. It is a fairly small, underground (hence the name) venue with a capacity of 250-300 at the maximum I think. At the back of the venue is a large bar area with plenty of drinks both tapped and bottled. The prices are fairly high but not unusually so for a London bar. Walking away from this bar there are are a couple of walkways through to the main music ... ...the far left hand corner of the room with a fair sized standing area set down in front of it. This 'pit' area is set below the level of the rest of the venue and is reached down a few steps. Before and around the stairs are barriers where good views can be had if you are not in a position to be in the way of one of the 3 unusually placed pillars dotted around the 'pit' area! While these pillars may be annoying if there was a really packed crowd, ...

Advantages: easy to get to, helpful staff, small venue Disadvantages: cost of drinks are usual for this type of venue
...I had never been to Camden before and had heard stories about the area, so I decided to give it a go.
Upon leaving camden tube station, I could see the venue straight away. Right by the pub on the otherside of the road. Upon entering, you go down some stairs to the cloakroom and stage area. As you stand at the bottom of the stairs, you can go towards the left wall to the bar, set back from the pit in a room of its own. Its a bit small but ample ... ...a stage entrance.
To the right of this is the stage and pit. Again, fairly small and the pit had 2 or 3 pillars that can get in the way if you are towards the back. Great live music and sound quality and helpful staff make this venue a treat to go to. The ticket prices are generally below average and worth checking out! ...

Reviews which might be of interest for "Camden Underworld"
Advantages: Great blues guitarist Disadvantages: it didn't last forever
I went to see Slash's Snakepit on the 5th December 2000 at the Underworld in Camden. The gig was part of the tour for "Ain't Life Grand" their album which was released late 2000.
The Underworld is a club under a pub in Camden, London. It has a capacity of about 500, so the show sold out pretty quickly. Although we were near the back of the queue it was faily easy to get right up to the front, the mosh pit only being a few people deep at such a small venue. After an hour or so the band came out onto the stage to a great cheer.
Slash's Snakepit played most of their songs from the new album "Ain't Life Grand", leaving out the slower songs such as "The Truth" and "Back to the Moment". The crowd really soaked up the atmosphere, loving every second of it, even when Slash managed to blow up and amp during "Shine" - Which allowed the band ...
Advantages: Original, excellent live Disadvantages: No second album as yet...
- definitely a grower.
At the time of writing, the second album, which has been expected for a while, has not yet been released. However, I have heard some of their new songs live, during a gig last year at the Underworld in Camden, and they were very very good- as good or better than those on the "Guided by Light" album.
The first time I saw them play live, they had a session singer who did look the part and sound the part to a certain extent. However, the second time I saw them, which was last year, Nod Wright was on vocals and it made all the difference. His voice is not that dissimilar to Carl McCoy (singer of Feilds of the Nephilim) in a way, although cleaner and less dramatic.
Standout tracks on the album? I would probably have to say "Full Circle" which has some great hooks and is one of the more immediate songs featued on the album ...
