I think Camelot is exactly what it says it is - a THEME park, with the theme being centred around King Arthur and the knights of the round table. So many places call themselves theme parks but aren't, so it's nice to visit one that is.

From the minute you are welcomed through the gates by King Arthur and his royal subjects (all played by actors who clearly enjoy their work and are enthusiastic about it) you are swept up in a world of mythical beasts, valiant knights and magical spells. OK - so it's designed for kids, but big kids can't fail to enjoy it either!

There are plenty of rides for children of all ages, from a section for really small children with little trains and swinging galleon ships, right up to the white knuckle rides including 'Knightmare' - a rollercoaster for the brave which includes a section called the 'psycho drop' - and the ominous sound 'The Rack'!

There are also a few indoor play areas which are ideal for when the weather here in the North does what it does best.

Also ideal for when it starts raining are the various shows which include Merlins Magic Workshop - which seemed extremely popular with the kids. It was never going to give Derren Brown a run for his money - but was amusing all the same.
The best show though is the jousting tournament, which is on the main stage area and is greet for kids and adults alike. There are a couple of hilarious 'court jesters' who warm the crowd up first and then the main show comes on complete with booing and hissing for the bad guys and cheering for Lancelot himself. The horses are stunning and the actors are very impressive in their roles.

There is also a petting zoo at the far side of the park, near the small kiddies are, where you can buy food for the animals and there are always some new babies there. The animals are free to wander around - they are very friendly and not at all shy - so make sure you don't leave your dinner on show!

There is plenty of onsite parking and places to eat in the park (although prices are quite expensive) and there are plenty of picnic areas, both indoors and out. You can get your hand stamped, so that you can leave bags and things in the car and go and get them when you're ready to eat.

Entry to the park is quite expensive (about £19 per person now I think) and there is no concession for children - although if you book tickets online, its slightly cheaper.

However, overall I would say it's definitely worth it, and we've all had a fab day out whenever we have been.
