Good quality video light
Advantages: Sony reliability, strong light Disadvantages: Power hungry
A video light that delivers either 10w or 20w, as you would expect it's a little power hungry but if like me you use NP-F950 batteries in your cameras, this takes the same size and so is not a problem.
It also takes NP-F330/530/550/750 but if you want to use it in 20w mode i would recommend the NP-750 or higher.
It fits onto any accessory shoe on any camera and throws a good light. I use it at weddings where its not practical to set up studio lights ... ...tend to use 10w and for wider shots the 20w. Both can be a little harsh on faces and can cause people to squint, even though the light is diffused. You can diffuse it further with some tissue paper which gives a nice soft light.
A good well made light that has it's place for the amateur or semi pro. Recommended. ...

It's a tripod Jim, but not as we know it..
Advantages: Lightweight (325g), compact, extremely flexible, rugged, inexpensive, attaches to almost anything! Disadvantages: Only works with genuinely compact cameras
The Joby Gorillapod - goes where no other tripod dares to tread Introduction When you say the word 'tripod' it conjures up a certain image, those three-legged extendable pole accessories which Grandad always insisted on getting down from the loft religiously every Christmas to take the obligatory 'group family photo' (in which no one would ever all smile at the same time, ever). Rusty, wobbly, stiff, rigid and rarely a better solution than ... ...This is where the Joby Gorillapod comes in, and what an entrance it makes! Design Genuine innovation doesn't just take an old idea and refine it or improve on it, genuine innovation goes right back to the drawing board and totally rethinks the original problem and comes up with a totally new way to solve it. And that's exactly what the good people at Joby did with this unasuming, yet intensely practical gadget. Yes, it's a tripod in the technical ...

Gorillapod in the mist!
Advantages: Small, easy to use Disadvantages: None
Like many other people there are 2 situations that really annoy me when I'm taking photos. The first is when you want a photo of yourself or you and a friend / partner, and there's no one else there to take the photo. How do we usually get round this? Either hold the camera at arms length, usually ending up with half a face and no scenery or balance the camera somewhere on timer and hope for the best!! The second is that of night time (scenery) photos. ... ...hand, but if my night time photography is anything to go by, I shake like I've gone cold turkey!!! Forever am I left with bleary streaks of light and there never seems to be anything to balance the camera on at the time or it is not flat enough if there is! So with these annoyances in mind I decided to buy a mini tripod to finally add another string to my photographic bow. After looking at a few normal ridged tripods I came across the Gorillapod ...

Vivitar 285 review
Advantages: durable, adjustable power Disadvantages: slow recycling, heavy
I got given this by a friend who knew I needed a flash gun (but couldn't afford one) and he had one to spare. Unfortunately he didn't have the manual so working out how to use it was a bit of a guessing game. Positives: Very sturdy and durable. Flash direction can be adjusted up and down (from shooting directly towards the subject to straight up for bouncing light of the ceiling). There is a switch at the back to turn it on and a light which goes ... ...of the flash is adjustable - this is where you may have problems though if you don't have the manual as some of the power settings are denoted in colours which if you don't have the manual, you don't know what they represent. There is a button to trigger the flash separately from using the camera as a trigger (this is good for tesing if it's working!) Takes AA batteries - easy to get hold of. Has a 'lock' lever which can be used to secure it to the ...
