Tamron is best for tight budget
Review of Tamron AF 28-300mm F3.5-6.3 XR Di LD (IF) by
HBForth
Advantages: Versatile, good range and great if you're constantly on the move.
Disadvantages: A bit too slow, not as sharp but will improve when you know its habits.
I bought my Tamron 28-300mm lens from Jessops, it was on offer at the time, I think I only paid £199. I've used it for a number of different shooting scenarios because of its flexibility regarding wide angle and zoom. Pros:
I really like the range. It gives me most of what I need in one lens so I can take it with me on holiday and not have to worry about packing three different lenses. It doubles as a macro as well due to the zoom length and the ... ...this lens with my Canon 400D SLR which I had bought about a year earlier and I've used it predominantly for wildlife. It's been with me to Mull, Scotland, Prague, Venice and its been very handy for switching quickly from street shots to long shots.
Cons:
Well, given the Canon 400D is heavy (for me anyway - I'm only 5ft 3), this makes the body even heavier. At times, I also felt the zoom ring was quite sticky and wouldn't focus if I was a tad too ...

Good starter lens
Review of Sony SAL1870 - zoom lens - 18 mm - 70 mm F/3.5-5.6 by
jtamagnini
Advantages: standard zoom kit lens, KM compatible
Disadvantages: some darkening at widest angle
...that comes with the new Sony Alpha 100 digital SLR camera (dSLR).
It fits on to a the Sony a-mount or for those who have one of the old Konica Minolta Dynax camera, it will fit in the KM-mount. However it is a digital only lens so film purists will not be served well by it.
Taking photos with this lens using the Sony camera is a dodle. The auto-focus or manual is done on the camera body so the lens only has two controls and those are lens length ... ...The lens length is a large ring control in the centre which is of smooth operation with just enough resistance so you don't knock it accidently but not so much where movements could be jerky. Auto-focus is fast and very reliable but not as quiet as some would like, certainly not one for stealth operation!
Manual focus is through a ring control right at the front. The lens could benefit from markers indicating distance from the object in focus but ...

Hmm... close but no cigar.
Review of Canon EF zoom lens - 28 mm - 135 mm F/3.5-5.6 by
buyer991
Advantages: Pretty good build quality and performance, excellent image stabiliser
Disadvantages: Quite expensive for just good but not great performance
Overview
-------------
I bought this lens as part of a package with my previous body, a 20D.
It is a good general purpose lens that covers a wide range of situations but is geared more towards 35mm film use than digital users.
Build Quality
------------------
The EF 28-135 IS USM falls into the mid-range bracket of lenses in that it is a "proper" lens. Unlike the cheapie kit lenses which have all plastic contruction, even the mount, this lens ... ...motor, not the USM micro motor or worse the ordinary motor. It focusses silently and quickly.
Build qulity is good but not great (compared to old Pentax lenses I own and Canon's own L Series professional lenses). The body of this lens extends when zooming and the action feels a little stiff at the wide end where it has to push out a sectional barrel.
The barrels feel a bit loose when its closed but this doesn't translate into any imaging problems, ...

Good Value
Review of Canon 250D - close-up lens by
Nazuku
Advantages: Good Value Product
Disadvantages: None
This is a good quality lens that offers good value for money in the very short term. Although as with most photo products, the value will deteriorate over time and should be able to get a cheaper version next year. It incorporates most of the latest features and technology that is currently available on the market. You could buy achepaer camera that does not need all this extra clutter
After using this product for a few months I have not so far ...
