Verry good tripod ... without the original ballhead
Advantages: light, stable, good construction Disadvantages: ball head not usable
this tripod is a good choice for hiking or on travel. Its just its head too light and impractical. I have an adapter that allows you to mount any photo ballhead on this tripod : http://pouypouy.blogspot.com/2009/06/how-to-adapt-photo-ballhead-on.html # the locking legs system is simple, safe and quick # the mounting / down / locking system of the central column is simple, good stop, without crank # the low-angle leg setting can autorize to put the ... ...is stable with a load of 2 or 3kg, without risk of camera fall down The bad side of this choice is its video ballhead: polycarbonate, the locking system does not take the load of 2 kg (it's normal : tripod is sold for a maximum load of 1 kg ), especially in vertical position (portrait). ...

Unerring Support through extreme conditions!
Advantages: Strong. Fairly Light. Offers great support and flexibility. Disadvantages: Doesn't come with a head.
The Manfrotto 190PRO is a great tripod. Straight out of the box you can tell your holding a quality product. The legs, made form Aluminium feel solid and have a very fine polished finish to them. Folded up and without a tripod head it's not too heavy, weighing in at 4.19lbs its no lightweight but it's more of a reassuring quality weight than a burdening weight. Now then the thing that really stands out to me about this tripod is its versatility. ... ...at (thanks to a small quick release clip at the top of each leg), including flat on the floor. This is great as the mini tripod I was using before wasn't really strong enough to support my SLR and this makes low angle shot very easy indeed. The removable centre column allows for even more versatility. Not only does its removal allow for ground level shooting as described above but the column also slots into a horizontal groove that allows for offset ...

Manfrotto 679B Monopod
Advantages: Light weight and easy to use Disadvantages: Locks slightly stiff at first (but they need to be to do their job!)
I purchased this item a couple of months ago and really wished I had purchased it many months sooner. It has been a great help to the cricket photography I have been doing over the summer as it has taken the strain off my back and arms, and allowing the use of manual focus on high speed sports photography to gain some excellent shots. Also the weight of this has not added vastly to the ever growing kit as it is nice and light to carry, but strong ... ...I did pay less than £30 for this item and has been well worth it. There are more 'flash' models avaliable on the market with quick releases, but this does the job perfectly and the 3 adjustable sections adequet to gain the height needed for me - all of 5ft 5"! There are monopod heads avaliable too for this to gain the movements of so required - I am currently looking into these for future work.
Overall, a fantastic piece of kit when you cannot carry ...

It's a tripod Jim, but not as we know it..
Advantages: Lightweight (325g), compact, extremely flexible, rugged, inexpensive, attaches to almost anything! Disadvantages: Only works with genuinely compact cameras
The Joby Gorillapod - goes where no other tripod dares to tread Introduction When you say the word 'tripod' it conjures up a certain image, those three-legged extendable pole accessories which Grandad always insisted on getting down from the loft religiously every Christmas to take the obligatory 'group family photo' (in which no one would ever all smile at the same time, ever). Rusty, wobbly, stiff, rigid and rarely a better solution than ... ...This is where the Joby Gorillapod comes in, and what an entrance it makes! Design Genuine innovation doesn't just take an old idea and refine it or improve on it, genuine innovation goes right back to the drawing board and totally rethinks the original problem and comes up with a totally new way to solve it. And that's exactly what the good people at Joby did with this unasuming, yet intensely practical gadget. Yes, it's a tripod in the technical ...

Gorillapod in the mist!
Advantages: Small, easy to use Disadvantages: None
Like many other people there are 2 situations that really annoy me when I'm taking photos. The first is when you want a photo of yourself or you and a friend / partner, and there's no one else there to take the photo. How do we usually get round this? Either hold the camera at arms length, usually ending up with half a face and no scenery or balance the camera somewhere on timer and hope for the best!! The second is that of night time (scenery) photos. ... ...hand, but if my night time photography is anything to go by, I shake like I've gone cold turkey!!! Forever am I left with bleary streaks of light and there never seems to be anything to balance the camera on at the time or it is not flat enough if there is! So with these annoyances in mind I decided to buy a mini tripod to finally add another string to my photographic bow. After looking at a few normal ridged tripods I came across the Gorillapod ...
