Very handy little thing Advantages: Easy to use and robust! Disadvantages: None found yet ...simple to use. On my Nikon D50, all i have to do is hold one button and swivel the dial a couple clicks and there, all set up. This allows the photographer to take photos of close up wildlife from a distance (so that they arent scared by some big human). It is also handy when it comes to astronomical photography. When the remote mode has been activated and the shutter speed turned right the way down until it reads "--", you can press the remote button ... ...until you press the remote button again - no timings whatsoever. You can determine the time the shutte is open. It is also very robust. I managed to drop it in a stream where it sank for a few seconds before i fished it out. I then threw it to my friend to dry off and he missed it so it crashed into the concrete path. It was perfectly fine - needed a little drying though. Steadfast, loyal and true!! Advantages: Reasonably priced, portable but very sturdy! Canon RC shutter release Advantages: Forget Camera shake, well, almost. Disadvantages: Can be a little fiddly ...to the camera. Canon have also made the RC5 remote, which, whilst it is slightly bigger and a little more comfortable to use, doesn't give you the option to pick between timer delay, and simple shutter release. This remote will easily give you a good 5M range, although I tend to use mine standing next to the camera when it's mounted on a tripod, simply to remove as much camera shake as I can. Obviously the windy weather can also contribute to camera ... ...for that yet. Expect to pay anthing from £9 to £35 - so it pays to shop around. Downsides: It is a little on the small side, and can be fiddly when outdoors (particularly if cold) - the small size doesn't necessarily make it hard to use, just more likely to drop it. Three Legged Lightweight Advantages: Lightweight and stylish Disadvantages: A bit flimsy for the professional photographer The Hama 75 is constructed from lightweight aluminium and might be considered as an entry level tripod that is both stylish and durable. I really like the appearance of this tripod. It comes in a kind of metallic tarnished champagne finish with black trimmings. This makes a welcome change from the more common aluminium grey or black.
