Nikon 18-105 gives great pictures at a surprisingly low price.

Advantages: Cheap, light, good general image quality.
Disadvantages: Slight loss of image quality at extremes.

A useful gem not to be abused

Advantages: Sharpness all around, good minimum aperture, gives great dramatic perspective
