When we were down in North Yorks recently, I had a fine old time sampling some of the local brews.I brought home a few bottles of various different beers, but I managed to squeeze the odd sojourn to the pub in as well and partake of some wonderful ales. One of these beers was not exactly local in the Yorkshire sense, but it hailed from a town which is close enough to make no difference. CAMERONS have been brewing beer at The Lion Brewery in Hartlepool ... ...Castle Eden Brewery and a new company formed. They produce cask, keg and bottled ales and lagers, some of which are: Nimmos XXXX, Castle Eden Ale and the seasonal Knights range. There most famous ale though, is STRONGARM. In 1992 the brewery was taken over by Wolverhampton & Dudley however recently there has been speculation about a change of ownership.
Camerons Strongarm is widely available, on draught, throughout the North East of England though sadly no longer available in cans. ... ...and this is a great shame because the beer lost little in the canning process.
Camerons Strongarm is 4.0% proof and is referred to as Ruby Red bitter, this name appearing on the pumps in the pubs in which it is sold. Priced at about £1.70 it is not expensive in comparison to other beers on the market. Strongarm has a unique taste and is full of flavour with a creamy head and a distinctive dark red hue, hence the name Ruby Red.
Some might say that ...
