Review of Eye Contact - Cammie McGovern by DavidCoulthard

Advantages: A well-written thriller.
Disadvantages: None

...The author, Cammie McGovern, is the mother of 4 boys, one of whom is autistic. She has also done a lot of work for autistic societies and therefore has the background knowledge to be able to portray the emotions of parents of similarly disabled children, and the children themselves. I feel that I learnt a lot about autism, and the different ways it can affect lives, by reading this book. From then on, the novel follows a parallel universe structure in which she either remains with her supportive partner or begins a new life with a more spontaneous man. So far, very similar to the hit film 'Sliding Doors'. What makes this structure so effective is Shriver's use of echoes between the chapters as Irina reacts to her life with each man; the parallel universes are made... Read review
