Some time ago in a galaxy far far away…came the V8 treaty…read on intrepid explorers to find out the origins of this historic agreement and how, even today you can find out what aliens taste like and save a galaxy, by sampling the V8!

V8 is the name of an intergalactic pact between warring alien factions 3,000,000,000,000 light years from earth. After years of not blending together very well the race of CELERY, from planet…Zob, suggested a truce and talks started aimed at creating peace in our time.

At that time the TOMATOES from Greenplantius had destroyed many of the taste buds that the other races thrived upon. But they could not claim outright victory as the other races adopted gorilla tactics. Yes, that’s right, they ran around earthy, vegetation naked! Arrrgh! But that’s another story…

So it was to be that a great meeting was held between the factions.

The obese TOMATOES came heavily represented
The chief CELERY(arian?) presided over the talks
They were joined by:
The horrific BEETROOTS who tainted and spoiled everything they touched
The weak LETTUCE’s who were green with envy at TOMATOES domination
The PARSLEY tribe that were distributed…sparsely
The giants of CARROT
WATERCRESS the demon invaders of the planet Teeth
And finally the strong and irrepressible SPINACH race

This unlikely bunch of negotiators mixed awkwardly for a while drinking WATER and playing the SALT and PEPPER game until, finally, a merger seemed almost within reach. At the last minute an arbitration agent from a distant land swooped in to save the day. Forever this agent will be known lovingly as:

Campbell Grocery Products LTD
Kings Lynn
Norfolk
PE30 4HS

The TOMATOES demand for 100% domination of the galaxy fell on deaf ears but after much toing and froing they settled for 82% of the galaxy with the other factions making up another 13% which left plenty (5% actually) for drinking water and playing the salt and paper game.

The treaty was known as V8 to celebrate the 8 factions that combined. But the truce is still uneasy to this day. Envoys were sent to the far reaches of the universe to test public opinion on the treaty…and the views received to date have been worryingly mixed. The public in worlds all over the universe either adore the V8 or they detest it.

The envoys even tried to package the message in different ways and made it available in all large supermarkets and small stores!

The 330ml canister V8 seemed popular at first and the race of humans even paid around 65p for this but they were not convinced. So the envoys created the 500ml glass bottle which went for around £1.20 but still the masses would not believe the message.

Unknown to our envoys at this time a habit of humans to vary prices considerably had delayed the uptake of the message. And they were further dismayed to discover that most places that stocked the message never even STORED IT IN THE FRIDGE!!!

HOW could they not understand and abide by the 3 main commandments of the V8

Thou shall get “best results serve chilled”
Thou shall “shake before serving”
Thou shall “refrigerate after opening”

But all is not lost my friends. Today, an enterprise named CIAO offers us hope of saving the V8. Our contact inside the organisation (Dave) offers the following code that I cannot decipher. I hope that the humans can understand it and embrace the V8 before war once more blights our galaxy…

Dave’s code:

“I really like V8 and often buy a bottle or can of it in place of some of my normal daily helpings of vegetables. However most places don’t put it in the fridge so it is hard to drink at lunchtime! Not everyone likes it. The taste is not very smooth, in fact this drink is quite spicy and would be great in a Bloody Mary! It has no added preservatives and many health food stores stock it as well as local shops and supermarkets. The following is its nutritional table:

Energy 14kcal
Protein 0.8g
Carb 3.1g
(of which sugars 3.1g)
Fat 0.1g
Fibre 0.7g
Sodium 0.3g
Vitamin A 15% RDA

I actually think that V8 makes me feel better the next morning if I’ve had one too many beers the night before. If I remember, I drink before I go to bed and it helps me feel energetic the next morning”

Message ends….
