Disadvantages Disadvantages One minor plotline was a bit of an anti-climax

Sophie Kinsella might be best known for her Shopaholic creation, Becky Bloomswood, but personally I much prefer her standalone novels. 'Can you keep a secret?' is very much in the Shopaholic vein - pure easy reading chick lit, which is exactly what I need at this point in time. The principal character is Emma Corrigan, a twenty something Marketing Assistant for a multi-national corporation with a string of insecurities and an engaging, believable personality which instantly had me warming to her and wanting her story to turn out well. I certainly found Emma much easier to relate to personally ... more

The other day I was in my local PDSA (vets for pets) shop searching for a bargain when I came across the books , which were all stacked neatly on a couple of dust-free shelves. As I quickly skimmed through the titles , my eyes were snatched by a lilac cover with a picture of a girl standing in a snow globe , standing with her back to the reader and crossing her fingers behind her back, surrounded by silver stars in the globe. The title read "Can You Keep A Secret ? ". "Ooh, wonder what this is about ?" I say to my friend who is also a keen reader. Curiously I wonder what type of secret is the ... more

What would you do if you were a nervous flyer and the plane you were on got very turbulent? Would you think you were going to die a horrible death and tell the person sitting next to you all of your deepest darkest secrets? I know I wouldn’t but Emma Corrigan main character in Sophie Kinsella's Can You Keep a Secret? Does just that. She tells the dishy American Gentleman sitting next to her all of her deepest darkest secrets – which she hasn’t even told her best friend. Thinking she is going to die anyway she doesn’t see the harm in doing this – even if she survives she surely won’t see the ... more

For some reason, lately, I am quite enjoying girlie books. I normally borrow my books from my Dad but obviously my Dad doesn't read girlie books so my most recent read was borrowed from my friend. She has a while collection of books written by Sophie Kinsella and said that this one was her favourite and told me to have a read. About Sophie Kinsella Sophie Kinsella's real name is Madeline Wickham and she was born on 12th December 1969. She has written a series of books which are based around a shopaholic. These books include: The Secret Dreamworld of a Shopaholic, Shopaholic Abroad, Shopaholic ... more

I have two friends called Emma. One has gigantic boobs and worked in the same resort as me last summer. The other works in marketing in London, and has normal sized breasticles. She’s also the main character in Kinsella’s latest novel. It’s strange, isn’t it, how you get to know fictitious people, and not just get to know them even – get to like them, want to help them, root for them when things get bad. Kinsella (author of the Shopaholic trilogy) writes in a chatty, laid back style, and you can’t help but get involved and feel as though you really know the ... more
