We all love intrigue and a book with a title "Can you keep a secret?" had me clammering to pick it up! This book is about an ordinary girl with secrets. They are just your every day secrets and musings not dark creepy secrets just personal things we don't want the world and our colleagues to know about.
The book gripped me completely, and I took the main character - Emma - to my heart almost immediately. She is a young woman, part of a perfect couple, living with her best friend and a flat mate, striving to carve out a career for herself and make her parents proud. Her life changes course after a flight, seemingly through hell itself and in the grip of terror blurts out her inner most secrets to a complete stranger!
You have probably been told not to worry about what people think and if you say something to someone on a tube or bus, it doesn't really matter, you will never see them again, right? Well this is a story about what could happen if you did ....................
I like this book because I saw a little of myself in her. When reading this type of book you need to have an empathy with the main character - well I do anyway. When you look around there will always be someone with a better career, however hard you try and, there is always, always, someone telling you they are better than you and rubbing your nose in their success.
This book, this lovely, lovely book made me laugh, cringe and cry all at once and took me somewhere where I could believe that sometimes, life can really be rather surprising.
The story is beautifully written by Sophie Kinsella and shows you that there is still some romance out there in the world - you just have to look for it. I have to say I loved it so much I read it twice.
