Intro

I have no need to imagine life without the Internet, for I can indeed remember the days when no such thing existed, well not for us mere mortals anyway. I’ve sat and watched its rise of popularity until as now it has overtaken out lives. A few years back this was not the case, but the Smartphone now means that the Internet can be with you anywhere, anytime, anyplace, and I for one am not so sure that is a good thing, although I’d also have to say I am a big fan of the Internet

Days gone by

In days gone by if you required to find out some information the local Library would most probably have been the venue of choice to find out what you wanted. This of course meant a trip and a search through loads of books and reference manuals, now we simply Google it and we can pretty much find out anything we desire. Now I like Google and I like the library but which is best……only one way to find out FIGHT. There is a lot to be said for the wading through books to get your info, you can come across some useful info in you search as you most probably can on Google, but the library I feel perhaps gives the greatest satisfaction since you in all probability had to work harder to get it. I could quite easily live with this should the Internet suddenly disappear.

Life without the Internet today

In the hustle bustle of today’s ever increasing pace of life the net gives us instant access to almost all we require, but us oldies are perhaps now quite as into it as the young uns, so we could probably live without it, but as for you Facebook, Twitter and the like, it has all become part of the young lifestyle so they might find it a lot harder. However using their brains instead of a texting keypad might prove a bit of an obstacle for many. Seeking out a book and trying to find info might just be too much bother, so they would definitely find it harder than us oldies. I like the net even if it seems at times that I’m not really doing much browsing is fun, and you often stumble upon some weird and wonderful things, so although I’d miss it, yeas I’d cope no problem after some minor withdrawal symptoms.

Comparison

A lot of stuff we used to do through the mail such as driving licenses and stuff is much easier accessed through the net and in a lot of cases more secure. It’s certainly usually quicker and in most instances cheaper so the net is a very useful tool indeed. Banking on the net is a doddle and I can mush more easily keep track than waiting for my paper statement every month, Paying bills is also quicker plus many companies offer a discount for paying through the net and at times through the neck. This said I was used to doing all the paperwork before and it might have been a chore, but I’d done it and that would give me more satisfaction than a quick entry on the net. The speed at which we live life will determine most I think how well one might survive without the net. The time saved, and sometimes the money saved. I still though quite liked the old proper way of doing things.

You took the words from my very mouth "I’ve sat and watched its rise of popularity until as now it has overtaken out lives" - and that statement makes me feel very old indeed! R.

I still prefer an Encyclopaedia "in the flesh" as it were, rather than an ever-evolving Wikipedia entry ... the contents are possibly more reliable as well, lol . . . ♥~ Jesi ~
