Ever present in my store cupboard
Advantages: Cheap, tasty, easy to store and easy to use Disadvantages: None
...a couple of tins of Tesco Value Chopped Tomatoes and realised that this is one product that it always present in my store cupboard.
Now if it is something that I can’t do without I guess I’d better tell you about it!
The Tesco Value range simply provides a low cost alternative to most of our basic items such as soap, fruit juice, tea, coffee, cola, cereals etc. Now there are some of these that I would not touch with a bargepole the obvious one ... ...and whatever the price!
Tesco Value Chopped Tomatoes currently retail at 35p for a 400g can as opposed to other brands ranging from 48p to 99p per can.
The can used to be plain white with a tomato on it and very obviously the value range but it has since been changed. I don’t know whether the change is to make the can look less ‘cheap’ because some people feel uncomfortable about others seeing ‘value’ products in their shopping trolley. Yes there ...

Power to the Peas
Advantages: big tasty peas Disadvantages: green slime
For this review, I have done something that I have never done before for the sake of Ciao. Can you guess what it is? That's right: research. Normally I just waffle on in an ill-informed and ultimately pointless way until I get bored, post the damn thing and then sit back and wait for the deluge of "you didn't tell us how much it cost/where to buy it/how many calories it has/bleat bleat bleat" comments to roll in. Sorry, that sounded a bit harsh. ... ...mean.
However, just now I came across the Marrowfat Peas category, and it suddenly struck me: I've been a big fan of marrowfat peas for many years, and yet I don't actually know the first thing about them. What IS a marrowfat pea? I know, it's almost philosophical. Let's look at the question again: What IS a marrowfat pea? I didn't have the foggiest. All I knew is that they sounded vaguely disgusting, probably due to a subconscious assimilation ...

Sweetly smart! Asda Smart Price Sweetcorn
Advantages: Very reasonably priced, good quality. Disadvantages: Only from Asda, no ring pull on can.
Review of Asda Smart Price Sweetcorn. This review covers canned sweetcorn from the Asda economy budget range, known as Smart Price. Along with many other supermarkets budget lines, Asda's Smart Price is a range of lower priced, simply packaged basic items. As I am restricted to a tight budget nowadays, I have been buying more and more products from supermarket own ranges. The Product and Packaging What is it? Self explanatory really, a can containing ... ...is basically white, with the Asda Smart Price logo in green and black. The label features a small image of a bowl of bright yellow sweetcorn kernels. Nutritional, cooking and Asda company information is also detailed on the label. The can is not the ring pull type, so an tin opener will be required! Appearance, Taste,Texture, Cooking Instructions and Usage On opening the can, the yellow sweetcorn kernels look to be well packed, however they are ...

Better than mush!
Advantages: delicious, not too unhealthy, cheap Disadvantages: /
...the cheaper option. With a Tesco store a mere five minutes away from me, I have taken to sampling a lot of their own goods, and more in particular their 'value' range. On one of those rare occasions that I was in the mood for mushy peas, I went on a hunt in Tesco to see what I could find, and this was when I discovered their Tesco Value Mushy Peas. The mushy peas are quite easily recognised on the shelf among the other pea options. They come in a ... ...much healthier option! The Tesco Value range is always of really good value, and the mush peas here are no exception. Each tin will cost you just 16p, which I think is truly wonderful. Named brands of the same amount can cost you way over 50p, and I feel that if you can get mushy peas of just as good quality for a much lower cost, then it would seem pointless to go for the more expensive option. Since trying these peas I have had them a few times ...

Cheap, that's me alright!
Advantages: Fantastic price! Nice taste. Can do lots with it. Disadvantages: None
When it comes to shopping I have to shop on a budget. So I generally do my shopping in Tesco's and buy their own value brand products. They're really cheap, and I can get LOTS more for my money! I once told my Nanny that I felt a bit embarressed buying the value range of products as people could then tell I was poor - especially when I saw people putting stuff like Heinz, Walkers and Walls ice cream in their trollies! She said "Oh, I wouldn't worry ... ...I always stock up with plenty of their baked beans and plum tomatoes. Tesco Value Plum Tomatoes can be bought for the princely some of just £0.15p for a 400g tin. Not bad, eh?!
The tin is predominantly white and red with the famous blue and white striped Tesco mark at the top of the tin. On one side of the tin are the ingredients, nutritional information, how to cook information (just in case you need telling!) and storage details.
On opening the ...
