Ive always had a gas cooker and I suppose you get used to using one. When I was young and still living with my parents we had a Canon gas cooker and when I bought my first house I had a Cannon. I have stuck with the brand except for the cooker prior to my present one and that was a Beko which was left in the house when we moved in. I was glad to get rid of it when we had the new kitchen and replaced it with the Chesterfield.
The Cannon C60GC-S Chesterfield Gas Cooker ≈≈≈≈≈≈≈≈≈≈≈≈≈≈≈≈≈≈≈≈≈≈≈≈≈≈≈≈≈≈
This is a cooker with a low level grill; I prefer these to eye level ones. The grill is actually classed as a second oven but we only use it for grilling or keeping food and plates warm. I have the silver model but it is also available in brown, black or white.
Other than not having an eye level grill the rest of the cooker is fairly traditional in layout. The oven is at the bottom and like all gas ovens is numbered in marks rather than temperatures. It has 4 gas burners and adjustable shelving in the oven and adjustable heights for the grill pan which is included. The cooker itself is height adjustable so it can be fitted at the correct height for the work surfaces on either side of it. The dimensions of the cooker are (HWD) 907 mm x 595 mm x 622 mm
The Oven: ≈≈≈≈≈≈≈≈≈≈ The cavity is 60 Litres and has a good bright interior light and you have quite a large glass area of the door to look through so you can get a good idea of how the food is doing without opening the door. The door has a Double Glazed Window and the interior glass door is removable for easier cleaning. The shelves are repositionable and the interior of the oven has stay clean catalytic liners which do keep it lean ; the only thing you have to clean off are where foods bubble up and spill over, everything else wipes clean quite easily. It has automatic ignition so there is no leaning in with a match or lighter. The ignition has never failed to light in the 2 years we have had the cooker.
A nice sized enameled roasting dish is included. This is large enough to roast a very hefty chicken and burned on food cleans straight off after a short soaking. The oven temperature is accurate and gives good and consistent results . The oven has a slow cook function and an electronic programmable timer. There is a clear LCD panel that shows the time and gives the details of times set etc. There is a sturdy handle to both the oven and grill doors. Its feet are independently adjustable to ensure appliance is level.
The hob: ≈≈≈≈≈≈≈≈≈≈ This has 4 burners: 1 rapid large burner, 1 small burner perfect for simmering and small pans and 2 medium burners. The pan rests are well designed being plain and easy to clean with no nooks or crannies and no fancy pattern to make cleaning more complicated. There is a safety cut out that turns off the gas to the burners when the lid is closed to prevent accidents. The lid is made from black toughened glass. The silver enamel surface of the hob plate is easy to keep clean with spills and burnt foods wipe easily away with a damp cloth. The grill:
The grill pan is included and, because the handle is detachable, this can double as n extra roasting dish. It is enameled too for easy cleaning. It is a good size allowing you to place 6 slices of bread over the pan in 2 rows of 3 slices. The grill burns evenly and the amount oh heat/flame size is controllable. With the grill pan removed there is ample room to put enough crockery to warm for a large dinner party or family meal such as Christmas and he heat transferred from the oven when lit is enough without lighting the grill.
The controls: ≈≈≈≈≈≈≈≈≈≈ There is an electronic timer and clock that runs from a battery as does the ignition. It doesnt need to be connected to an electrical socket. On he fascia panel are six large knobs. On the far right is the grill control, then the LCD window with its 6 small control buttons- for setting the timer, slow cook and time.
On the other side of the panel is the oven control knob followed by the burner controls in sequence: right front, right rear, left rear and left front. These are marked with clear graphical icons .The off position is well marked on all knobs.
It is possible to convert this cooker to LPG if necessary but it wasnt for us so I cant vouch for its capabilities on anything other than mains piped gas.
My opinion: ≈≈≈≈≈≈≈≈≈≈ This cooker looks good; it has been well designed with no awkward angles or spaces to trap grease or spills. The body of the cooker is easy to keep clean as are the oven cavities and hob. The glass doors have a nice etched effect which looks eye catching and appealing but doesnt hinder vision into the cavities at all.
This is a good cooker for someone, like me, who doesnt want loads of extras that never get used but wants a reliable, even burning cooker that gives good results across the whole range of munchies from cakes to casseroles to soufflιs.
The main oven failed to light after we had the cooker for 6 weeks. This happenned the week before Christmas. The repair man brought the wrong part and we were left without a cooker for Christmas. It is being replaced on 7/1 after 3 difficult weeks without an oven. The service people won't even give us an indication as to when they will arrive - just be in all day. No compensation offered for the ruined Christmas dinner - try cooking for a family of 8 on 4 hobs and a small upper oven that doesn't cook evenly anyway.
Hope the replacement behaves better, though I don't feel very confident about it.

Advantages: None unless you like phoning the service department Disadvantages: This cooker has quality assurance issues
...have now been returned to Cannon as being not fit for purpose.
Both suffered from identical faults. The top oven took 45 minutes to get to a stable temperature which was 50deg F below the set temperature. Food was burned at the back and uncooked at the front. On the first the cooling fan failed to function until it unjammed itself, noisey on both cookers. The shut off flap for the top oven on both failed to operate. A known fault on this (Chestergate) ...

Advantages: Stainless hob is easy to wipe down Disadvantages: Delayed uneven oven cooking
...5. We find that 20% longer cooking times are required when using the ovens. The ovens cook unevenly, 'zoned oven' means burnt at the back and uncooked at the front.
For us buying another Cannon has been a backward step.
Look around for a better appliance before buying this model. ...

Advantages: Looks good Disadvantages: Poor quality and low reliability
Judging by the other reviews here I am not alone in my negative experience of this cooker.
The first problem we had was that the oven would not stay lit - the flame would go out for no reason at all and the safety mechanism would literally "click" in.
The thermostat for the main oven has been problematic from day one despite being replaced on three occasions - subsequently there is no or very little control over the flame height: it's all or nothing. ... ...so it took us a while to notice that there was a problem. We even almost convinced ourselves that the oven is supposed to work like this (three replaced thermostats?!)
Now we find that the top oven is also faulty - tried to cook a small chicken which was uncooked on the inside and burned on the outside.
These observations and experiences seem to tally with that of other reviewers here.
I assume that there is some sort of design fault with this ...
