It may be a few years old now but if you can get your hands on the Canon AE1 Program you will have one of the best all time cameras ever made. It quite simply takes the perfect picture.
I recently took mine into a photographers for a service and clean up, the proprietor commented on the excellence of the camera and offered to buy it off me there and then, even an offer of £350 could not persuade me to part with this camera. It is an SLR type 35mm semi-automatic camera over which you have full control of appeture, shutter speed, film speed, flash etc, you are in total control, unlike todays modern fully automatic jobs. Interchangeable lenses make this a superb professional camera, even my brother has offered to buy it from me (he's a professional photographer by trade), but I simply won't be parted from it.
If you can pick one up second hand then do so, my guess is that it will end up not only as a very practical camera but a collectors item to the enthusiast.
