This printer is one of the cheapest to buy, I believe I paid about £50 for it and I definetly got my moneys worth. To be honest the only reason I chose this printer is beacuse the ink cartridges were cheap. The official cartridges cost £6 for a black cartridge and £18 for a colour one, but you can buy cheaper versions, I paid just £3 for my last black and white one. The printer can hold both cartridges at the same time. However most computers seem to automatically use the colour cartridge, even for just printing in black so you need to make sure you change the settings so that it uses the black cartridge when you only want to print in black.
The cartridges are very easy to replace, when you lift the front of the printer up the cartridges move right in fornt of you, you just move a lever and pull the cartridge out. Just be careful you dont touch the bottom of a cartridge because the ink goes everywhere and is very difficult to get off!
This printer is very easy to install, it comes with a very helpful cd that tells you everything you need to know and answers all your questions. I've installed it on 3 different computers and each time it's been installed within minutes. It's also quite small and easy to store. Unfortunetly it doesn't have an off switch so you have to remember to unplug it when you're not using it. This is quite annoying because when you want to use the printer you have to fiddle around behind the computer to plug it in!
The other downside is that it doesn't print particulary fast. It does about 3 pages of black ink in a minute and one colour page takes just over a minute depending on the size and detail of the picture. Personally I don't find this a problem but I suppose if you're impatient this might annoy you.
Overall I think this is a very good choice of a printer, especially for a student. Just printing up essays and university work I only have to replace the black cartridge about once a year. As for the colour cartridge it only ran out last week, and i've had the printer for 4 years! It is very dependable, I've had it for 4 years and I've never had a single problem with it. The one thing I would say is that I wouldn't recommend it for someone who does copious amounts of printing, or for a business. But just for personal use it is a brilliant printer.
