Advantages: cost, solid printer, cheap replacement carts, quality Disadvantages: beaten by the ugly stick
The Canon BJC5000 has to be one of the ugliest printers this side of the entire HP range. A big grey wall of plastic at the front, and rounded at the back, it at least looks solid, and heavy use proves this to be the case. Fortunately, the models Canon have brought out to replace it are much better looking, but if you can pick up a 5000 cheaper, there's still a case to be made for going for it.
The printer has the standadrd dual cartridge ... ...a black one in at the same time. Indeed, you can have two black cartridges in at the same time; the whopping BC23, a snip at £28.99 but which does last for ages, and the slightly more compact BCI21, a mere £5.28 (if you know where to look). Colour carts are more expensive, about £14.99; but it is worth bearing in mind that you can get the cheaper Dataline alternatives. The printer has the standadrd dual cartridge system meaning that you can have a colour cartridge and a black one in at the same time. Some places such as Office World are selling these very cheaply - you can pick up a pack of three black for £4.99, for example. The photo option is obviously more pricey.
Print quality is superb, as you would expect from a 720x1440 dpi printer. Black text is crisp, and even without the photo cart, the pictures are well-defined and vibrant, no matter what the media used; and the 5000 can take up to A3 paper. However, I have, as yet, found no way to get it to admit that I use A4 paper most often - the default is letter size and I can't figure out a way of altering this.
As you would expect with Canon, the manuals are comprehensive, and the driver software excellent. I'd definitely recommend buying this printer if you can find one - and there is still stock lurking out there - but make sure you get the right price, as later Canons of similar quality have additional advantages such as seperate cartridges for each colour.
Advantages: It was ok until... Disadvantages: It ruined a 26 page assignment
OK. If it hadn't happened, this printer would have probably gotten an ok rating. First of all I am writing this on behalf of my friend Darwin Parlson in Ottawa. But unfortunately, the little "incident" had done something to me.
1. The Looks
Something this printer lacks in. It looks like a block of concrete really shaped in the form of a printer. The dark grey color makes it look very dreary and not so much of a color printer. But if you want a ... ...then by all means, this printer is ok.
2. The Print
The print was ok. There is pretty good color range, but you'll notice the dots in the color. It makes the picture look more non realistic. The ink sometimes is blotchy and leaves the paper wet. Also when it is printing, you'll notice the great orchestra of noise in it's printing process. Loud enough to wake up my friend's neighbours! Fortunately, they know all about it.
3, Price
Now one decent ...

Advantages: Quality is outstanding! Disadvantages: A3 paper may be taken in angled (1 in 10 chances - for me)
the market it captures many customers (such as retailers). Many consumers? attention turn towards the new features the printer will provide that not many printer manufacturers think of. For example many years back Canon had released the ?Bjc5000?, a really good QUALITY bubble jet printer that supported A3 paper, its price was very cheap compared to other printers that offered a similar choice.
That?s basically why canon is still known for its popularity in consumers, they offered excellent quality products for cheap prices that met their consumer demands.
Well that?s enough with the business and historical side of Canon now its time to see the exciting information and technical side (to do with the Canon BJ I6500) ^^
