Hi,
First thing I'll say is that this camera isn't mine! It's one I use a lot at work, so if anything it probably gets more use, and on a wider varity of projects. This camera is really designed for the business and high end user.
The unit itself is a reasonable size. Ist's not too large to make it difficult to use, but it is lasrge enough to make it easy to keep a smooth picture. Weight wise It's fine until you start adding extras. I often use a wide angle lens, and glare shield which can add a lot of weight to the front end of the camera. If you the add something to the active shoe, you can be fighting to keep the lens from pointing at your feet. This has never really proved a problem to me though, as when i'm using all the extra equipment, I'm normally using a tripod as well.
The camera uses Mini DV tape and SD cards for photos. It provides Megapixel recording and 1.7Megapixels for still images. You have a 20X optical zoom, pushing up to 100X for digital.
You have all your normal functions such as image stabilizer, digital effects, wide screen and the like as you would expect.
The one feature that I use a lot is the "Clear scan function" This allows the camera to be set to work with a projector or plasma screen without getting the flickering and black bands you normally get when filming a screen. This is great for me as a lot of the recording i do is of people giving presentations.
The menu system seems rather basic when you first use it, but don't let it fool you! A lot of the functions arn't clearly named, and some seem to be inactive, with no simple way to get them to work. That said, when i've really been stuck, one call to Canon and it's sorted. Their service is really worth it's weight in gold.
Overall, I'd say this is a great bit of kit, just don't expect to pull it out the box and know straight away how it works. You'll be able to record things without a problem, but to get it's full potential, read the manual and play with it till your happy!
