Digital cameras are now entering the mainstream thanks to a rash of new products and competitive pricing, but such technology does not suit all users. Limited resolution and...more...limitations on the number of shots that cameras can hold are just two of the problems common to digital photography, and as a result this technology is only cautiously being embraced. Hence, Canon is trying to tempt users with an interesting alternative in the form of the CanoScan 2700F. This is a shoebox-sized external unit that communicates to the host PC via a supplied SCSI card. The CanoScan is a full color image scanner, but has been designed specifically for the needs of photographers. Rather than using a sheet-fed or flatbed scanning mechanism, the CanoScan has been designed solely to scan photographs. This does not, however, mean that the unit is used to scan developed photographic prints. Instead the unit can scan developed 35mm slides, film negatives or IX240 film. However, you can't use unprocessed 35mm film; you will need to develop films into fixed negatives.
