Manufacturer's product description
The CanoScan 300 is one of the smallest, lightest A4 flatbed color scanners in the world, and includes everything you need to begin enjoying its many uses immediately. These include desktop publishing, web publishing, presentations and homework. You can also store documents for faxing with the appropriate software. The CanoScan 300 features high optical resolution, outstanding enhanced resolution, superior color definition and a unique light source. Each helps create a better scanned image. Type becomes easier to read, lines are better defined, color has more depth, and photographs are more natural in appearance. Because Canon is a world leader in optics, copying, faxing, scanning and printing, it understands the importance of light to color imaging. The CanoScan 300 uses a unique, long-lasting Xenon lamp that more closely resembles natural light for greater uniformity. By using one-pass scanning, Canon eliminates multi-pass alignment problems, as well as increase scanning speed.

Advantages: Nice resolution, quick and easy to use, professional quality scanner Disadvantages: Non so far
...I own a small printers and my back-ground is in Graphic Design so when I look for a scanner I look for one that is easy to use but can supply quality high resolution images that can be used for a professional looking finished product and the CanonCanoScan 8600F never fails to deliver the results I am after.
Some may say that the price at around £120 to £150 is maybe a little on the high side but with 4800 x 9600dpi, USB2 connectivity for high speed scans and a nice little mode that allows you to scan multiple images as seperate files with a single pass of the scanner you certainly get what you pay for.
If you are looking for a quality scanner for ease of use but professional results then the CanoScan 8600F is for you....

Advantages: Good software, small, slim Disadvantages: None
...The first things that you notice about the Canon FB630Ui scanner are the striking blue colour of the lid, and the diminutive size. Set up is pretty straightforward provided you know how to install software - the manual is not as helpful as it should be. The scanner itself takes power via the USB port so there's less leads to trail. Scanning a document is reasonably quick, and the one touch button to launch the relevant software is very useful. Supplied software is pretty comprehensive also. For a simple, inexpensive scanner, the Canon FB630Ui is hard to beat....
