...scratched original had all disappeared! Canon calls this QARE technology - it will clean up dust, fingerprints and scratches with minimal intervention. Then I tried the transparency scanner. Only 35mm negatives or slides are accommodated - I had hoped that perhaps some really old negatives on 126 film could be scanned in, but this proved an unlikely prospect.

Copying is fast and high quality - but I don't like doing this as it wastes valuable printer ink.
What about directly emailing files and photos?
Well, you can with a canon (hmmm)...I couldn't believe this excellent feature...press email...outlook opens with the file attatched and you enter the email add. and type whatever you ... ...guessed you need to set these preferences up beforehand but it all has wizards with the software that comes with the scanner.
File buttons simplify document and photo scanning also.

You also get the standard Edition of the popular and best-selling OCR/Scanning software, ScanSoft Omnipage, as well as a toolbox application that allows you to carry out basic functions from a little palatte windows in the corner of your screen.
The scanner itself is lightweight and slightly larger than ... ...on the front which allow you to Scan, Print, Save and E-mail - handy for photos and business documents. There is also a lock on the base of the scanner to prevent it being used accidentally or being disturbed in transit. This lock has to be slid to the 'off' position prior to initial use, just for your reference.
