Intro
This scanner from Canon is a flatbed scanner, which can also scan film. Yes, that means you can scan your old negatives! Of course, if you don?t need to, don't let that put you off this scanner. This is one of Canon's mid-range scanners, higher models have better film scanning.
Installation of this scanner was a breeze. First, you have to unpack the scanner. Whilst this may seem like a minor point, it does actually take a little while because all the parts of the scanner is secured by many little red tape strips of tape, which you have to remove. Whilst this does take a little while, you can be sure your scanner was fully protected in transportation and is assuring. After that you just have to connect the USB and power cables and install the software, and you're ready to go.

CanonCanoScan
The CanonCanoScan LIDE 60 is one of my most recent buys.
It has a very hard act to follow in my study - an HP Scanjet 6300 which I reviewed some time ago.
Buying
The HP decided to die on me, just when I needed it in connection with a funeral!
I needed to scan a photo for an order of service in full colour, and the HP was lifeless.
A quick trip to PCW was my only hope, and faced me with a dilemma. Would I go top of the range - my normal approach - or get by with something cheapish.
The latter was the option which led me to the Canon. At under £50 it seemed to offer all I really needed, and did the job perfectly once I got it home.

The CanonCanoScan is a great all-round flatbed scanner. It is a good size (25cm x 36cm x 4cm) to enable all regular scanning, whilst not taking up unnecessary desk space. It has a resolution of 4800dpi x 4800 dpi, which results in great quality scans, of both black and white or colour documents/images.
Whilst I have been rather let down by other scanners, this one is really easy to use and gives fantastic results. It is easy to scan in regular sheets/photos, but the lid also allows you to scan notebooks etc. Although other scanners I have used have allowed you to do this, the results have not been so good; often having the lid slightly ajar results in bleached patches of the scanned document, due to light getting in. However, I have personally not suffered any problems like that with this scanner.

The scanner has the capacity to create 300dpi A4 scans in a remarkably fast time of approximately 11 seconds. Both 35mm film and slide scanning are delivered with exceptional quality. It is possible to scan film straight into your PC or Mac. The inclusion of a high-brightness white LED for reflective scans equals fast operation. This is superbly demonstrated via zero warm-up, so there is no need for the user to wait around before they can begin scanning. This is a sophisticated scanner with many creative functions, but it remains easy to use. Seven EZ buttons are provided - they are all on the front of the scanner - and these allow the most common tasks to be performed with one-click. The buttons cover copy, scan, email and creating PDFs. The buttons can also be configured by the user to suit their individual preferences. Auto scan mode is another creative, yet straightforward feature. The scanner automatically senses what is to be scanned - document or photo - and scans and saves these using settings appropriate to the original. This can be completed from the one-click software menu.
