Canon Canoscan 8600F review
Review of Canon CanoScan 8600F by greggan

Advantages: Nice and fast for reflective scanning, good result from film at larger sizes.
Disadvantages: Not good enough for large prints of scanned 35mm film.

The canon Canoscan 8600F are best suited for reflective scanning and film of greater size that 35mm. For large format and medium format film it is quite good actually and should allow you to make large print from your scan. Images are a tad soft straight from the scanner but respond well to USM sharpening. For regular 35mm film scans will be good for smaller prints and work just fine if your main goal is to use your images for web use and digital ...
...not up to the discontinued Canon 9950F or the new Epson V700 but it is also a great bit cheaper and Nice for its price! Anyhow if your plans are to produce high quality gallery prints, the I suggest that you shop for a dedicated film scanner instead. Canon CanoScan Can Scan!
Review of Canon CanoScan 8600F by SurveyMe1

Advantages: Nice resolution, quick and easy to use, professional quality scanner
Disadvantages: Non so far

...looking finished product and the Canon CanoScan 8600F never fails to deliver the results I am after. Some may say that the price at around £120 to £150 is maybe a little on the high side but with 4800 x 9600dpi, USB2 connectivity for high speed scans and a nice little mode that allows you to scan multiple images as seperate files with a single pass of the scanner you certainly get what you pay for. If you are looking for a quality scanner for ease ... Read review

Canoscan 8600f
Review of Canon CanoScan 8600F by electric_donut

Advantages: Scans are speedy not the fastest though
Disadvantages: Canon drivers don't work- so no Bulk scanning& can't use FARE

...you want good scans. The Canon driver does the bulk scanning and basically crashes every time at the end of a scan. I can't belive they let it out of the factory! Even the latest one. So bulk scanning is out of the question. The scanned output from slides compares very poorly to a dedicated scanner. If you need a scanner for Prints you can get a cheaper one else where. For slides don't bother. Btw I sepnt a month trying to get Canon Support to ... Read review
