Advantages: Brilliant Quality Disadvantages: A bit slow, flimsy negative holders
...640U and everything about the Canon is better - with the exception of speed.
Scanning of photographs is easy and relatively fast. The results are as close to perfect as you are going to get.
Batch scanning of 35mm negatives is a breeze if not somewhat arduous. It takes about 5 minutes for to generate the preview. Put in up to 24 negatives (up to 4 strips of 6) to scan at 800dpi, go away, have a cup of tea - come back 15 minutes later and it's all ... ...much easier and faster if Canon had included a dedicated 120 film holder. My conclusion would be:
If you want the best quality scans and aren't in a mad hurry, this is definately ...

So, I purchased the 9900F to replace both scanners.
Connecting the scanner to the PC is straightforward, and the supplied software is quick and easy to instal.
The scanner comes with a plastic ... ...negatives from the mail order developer arriving in strips of four plus the first (or last) shot on a separate strip, I have to do two scanning runs per roll of 24 and three for a roll of 26. I find that 36 shots at 800dpi take me a little under an hour when saving in Photoshop is included.
The supplied software is easy to use and allows you to adjust brightness, contrast, etc. for each individual shot if needed. You can also select which shots ...

The 9900F scanner is built to deliver spectacular scans all day long for your choice of photos, transparencies or negatives in a wide range of sizes: 35mm, medium-format or 4" x 5" - and photos or documents up to 8.5" x 11". To quickly and conveniently add negatives or slides to any project, a built-in 35mm film adapter scans up to 24 negative frames or 8 mounted slides at a time. Four external buttons make it easy for you to scan, copy, e-mail or file. Place your photo or film, press the external Scan button - and the 9900F scanner takes over from there, automating the entire process. For added ease-of-use, scan multiple images in one pass with Multi-Scan mode. The 9900F scanner includes a powerful suite of applications featuring Adobe Photoshop Elements 2.0. The 9900F scanner's built-in automatic retouching technology, FARE 2.0 (Film Automatic Retouching and Enhancement) is designed to automatically and precisely remove much of the dust and scratches that may appear on your original slides or negatives - so final scans of dusty and/or scratched film can look better than the original.
