I have owned this scanner a few years now and have used it regularly and found it very good and it produces good quality images and has a high enough resolution to satisfy most people.

It is quite easy to setup if you have previous knowledge of SCSI but if you have little you may struggle. Once the Scangear software is installed that will cater for most of your scanning needs, although in setting up you need to setup pictures to be saved as JPG unless you want huge file sizes and turn off easy aquire if you ever want to select a certain area of a program to select. Apart from that it is very usable.

Being SCSI another thing that may irritate people is the need for the scanner to be on at startup and this may irritate those who are familiar with USB a large amount.

The images taken have a high level of colour and the scanner also functions well on text. If the text is black on white you should use texted enhanced but if it is any other colours you may well need to use grayscale or colour to make it readable.

The scanner itself is quite bulky but if you are going to have any other scanner on the desk it would take up almost the same amount of space.

The Negative Scanner never worked on XP despite stating it does on Canons website and I found the support not very useful in this situation.

Overall if you know what you are doing technical wise and do not mind installing a PCI card to use the scsiadaptor I recommend purchasing this Scanner, otherwise stay away despite the good image quality, which can probably now be reached on a USB 2.0 scanner at the same speed.
