CanoScan FS2710 delivers outstanding resolution in a compact desktop unit. This affordable high-performance film scanner is the ideal solution for professionals and photo...

The high-quality scanning ability of CanoScan FS2710 comes from its combination of high-resolution 2720dpi CCD sensor, 36-bit color depth, and the 3.2D optical density range. With this combination the scanner is able to extract the smallest details and broadest range of tones from your original film images. CanoScan FS2710 makes scanning 35mm negative and positive films simple - mounted 35mm slides can be placed straight into the scanner, and 35mm film strips fit in the supplied film strip holder. Unlike many competitor film scanners, CanoScan FS2710 includes an APS film adapter, enabling APS film to be scanned as standard. CanoScan FS2710 can scan 35mm negative and positive films in only 13 seconds and APS film at just 10 seconds per frame. This speedy scanning is well matched by the scanner's high-speed PC interface for transferring the images to the computer. The matching of high speed and high quality ensures maximum productivity.

Full review
I bought the Canoscan FS2710 for £430 inc. Vat.

Yes it is expensive compared to normal flatbed scanners. But if you are serious and want to do a lot of quality negative scans, the quality you will achieve with a film scanner is far superior than a flatbed.

Why I bought this Canon?

- Its competitive price compared to all the rest.
- It can scan negatives and APS films, no other adapter required. I don't think anyother at this price can do both without having to purchase an extra adapter.
- Other scanners i.e. The Hp and Epson, many have complained about scratching of negatives when being fed in.
- It is not USB. I want speed USB will be slower than SCSI, plus they give you a free SCSI card! True I have to restart my machine before I can turn it on .. but I rather do that than have a slow unstable device.
- Quality wise it was rated highly

How it rates now I have used it?

- You may have read, as I did, bad things about its useability. People complained about how hard it was to use the negative mounter (negative need to mounted in a clip to be inserted into the scanner) This is absolute rubbish, I have no trouble using it all.
- It was very easy to setup, I am running a Mac G4. I was able to use it immediately in photoshop.
- Scanning is fast enough .. I can't compare it with anything else .. but for me it is fine. About 15sec's a slide? on 2700dpi colour.
- APS haven't tried it yet .. I don't own an APS camera.
- Quality of scans is excellent soooo much better than a flatbed. The only thing is you must be careful, best to clean the negative with a lense cleaner brush and a blower to remove dust and hairs before you insert and scan. But this will always be the same for all film scanners.
- Quality of build, excellent the Canon feels solid and well built.
- Good black flip up dust cover that cover the scanning hole when not in use.
- Software interface, easy and good to use.

My only gripe is it doesn't do batch scanning, you can only scan one negative at a time. But oh well you can't have everything. I am vey pleased with my purchase.
