Canon Can-Scan LiDE 50

Advantages: Very conpact design that does not hinder performance
Disadvantages: quite slow becasue its not mains powered. Not as good as the desktop models

Because I travel a lot for work, I needed a scanner so that I can scan documents and images. I came across this very handy scanner after looking around for a while for a scanner that was portable, useable and most of all, of high quality.

I had already tries several other scanners that were of no use to me at all, either too full of features or not at all and not very good. I found that this one had it all. I found it in review site, ...
...pick one up from my local hardware store for about 59.99.

A very annoying thing about this scanner was that it came with FIVE software cds; I think they went a little over the top there. Considering that half of them are software to edit pictures from the scanner, not even use the scanner.

The scanner had a very nice feel to it, its was brushed aluminium, it’s of good quality and it looks good too. One the front is four ... more

Scanning Success

Advantages: A high quality scanner at a reasonable price
Disadvantages: No mains power which slows it down a little

I bought this scanner just over a year ago and have had trouble free scanning ever since. It was very easy to install with good instructions that led you through the process in a logical manner. I would think that even a pc novice could do it. I cannot remember the exact price I paid at the time but remember thinking it was good value for the features you got in comparison to other manufacturers. It also came with a fantastic software bundle that ...
...use it for, bar major alterations. (These included ScanGear CS, CanoScan Toolbox, Arcsoft PhotoBase and Presto! PageManager) It has proven to be an ideal scanner for home use, and I would think works equally well in the office environment. It produces crisp, clear images and is very easy to use. It can, however, be a little slow as its only power source is the USB connection. This can be a plus though if you are short on electric power points. Having ...

Canon Lide 50- 12 months on

Advantages: fast, good resolution, good value, software bundle
Disadvantages: none to think of

I bought the Canon LiDE 50 scanner just over a year ago, to replace an aging and very slow USB 1.1 model from an alternate manufacturer. Speed + resolution were my main initial requirements, as was a compact design. At the time of purchase, there were very few USB 2.0 [or Hi-Speed, Enhanced USB depending on your 'Device Manger' listing in Windows] compliant scanners, and the price was very fair [£70 including VAT and delivery]. Software very useful ...
...sleek’. I could fit 3-4 Canon LiDE 50's in the same space my previous scanner occupied. Then the real test, speed. My older scanner would take an age to preview, let alone scan anything. But this..... what a testament to USB 2.0. A few seconds to scan A4 photos at 600dpi. Quality was infinitely better than my old scanning experience. The scanner features an ingenious Z-lid for scanning bulkier objects, and can be stored/operated flat or on its side. ...
