Canon DCC-300 Soft case Digital photo camera

...We used to sell the Canon DCC-300 case in our shop for £12.99, and the mark up is quite staggering as we purchased them for only £1.99. If you consider that Canon are making a hefty profit as well, you can image that the case is not going to be made from some lightweight high tech and space age material, it is coated in canvas and what feels like cheap canvas to me.

The opening is covered and sealed by a further canvas cover that has a very large velcro button which stays closed and takes a hefty tug to get open so they is no danger of the camera slipping out. At the back of the case are holes so it can be fitted through a belt as well.

Please read this review all the way through, and try to rate it fairly. It is going to be short and to the point as there is very little you can really say about a case for a camera. I will try and cover everything about it and my experience of selling them, and subsequently dealing with the returns and complaints we have received. Designed as a protective case for the PowerShot range of Canon digital cameras the A610, A620, A630 and A640 all fit snugly, although the A640 is a bit of a tight fit. OK, readers might have got a negative vibe from the start of my review, well that’s because my thoughts on this are very negative. We sold 10 of these in 2 months and 7 have been returned because the stitching had come lose leaving the camera exposed and frankly in some cases in danger of falling through the hole. Having examined a brand new case direct from the packaging (and taken from another batch) the same problem was evident. A gentle tug on either side of the stitching and it does literally come apart in your hands. Now when you consider that you have to pull quite hard to get the Velcro covering off a couple of uses and you are left with a tatty piece of canvas will holes in it. Not good.

Another major problem with the case is the lack of padding within the lining of the canvas. It is approximately 5mm thick and I can honestly say if I dropped the case with camera in it from say waist height (1-1.5m) I would not expect the camera to work again.

I have no returned our stock of these cases to our supplier and would not now sell one to my worst enemy.

Avoid at all costs.
