== Canon DCC-90 Soft Case - my review
===

Canon DCC-90 is the official soft case for the Canon camera models S2, S3 and S5. There isn't really too much to say about this soft case but I'll do my best.
I own a Canon digital camera S5 IS and since the size of this camera is quite weird (not as big as Reflex cameras but neither small enough to fit in common camera cases) I found very hard to find a proper case for it. What stopped me from buying the original case by Canon was it's price. As a matter of fact the cost is £14.55 at the lowest (on amazon.co.uk) while generally can be purchased around £17-25 everywhere else. Also I could hardly find any picture of it online and they are impossible to find in shops so I didn't really fancied spending such an amount of money for something I couldn't even see properly. I am aware that camera bags are generally expensive and I can justify £15 for a generously-sized generic bag but not for a tight fit lightweight soft case. The problem is the brand. Anything with a brand on it is bound to be extortionate. But it's not just that...

GOOD AND BAD

I was extremely lucky in finding one on ebay for £2 + £2 P&P and I have to say that under £8 is the price that this soft case deserves. It is just a soft case with "Canon" logo on it. It is padded enough to avoid your monitor being scratched but don't plan on bashing it (or, even worse, drop it) too much as it's just not padded enough to prevent real damages to the camera. What's good is that on the back it has a belt loop so that you can attach the bag with the camera inside safely on your belt. Another thing I quite appreciate is the detachable shoulder strap that can slide on two positions. One allows the bag to reach your hips level, another that places it higher on your chest for a "on-one-shoulder-position". This is smartly achieved by a very simple design of the strap which unfortunately is quite hard for me to explain in a few words.
This camera bag can be also used for similar (or smaller) cameras, it fits perfectly my girlfriend's Fujifilm S1000df for example, and is quite good looking without "showing off" too much.

Now the negative points. Aside from the price of course, there is the fact that it lacks of any extra pockets. You won't be able to store memory cards and extra batteries. I don't particularly care of this but some might. The worst issue of all though is the tight fit. I don't know about the S2 and S3 but my Canon S5 camera DOES NOT FIT in it although this case is specifically designed for it. The camera seems to high for the case so that you cannot zip the top and even if you manage that, pressing and pushing hard perhaps, you won't be able to fit the camera lace too, let alone camera hood or extra lenses. It is decently sized however for anything smaller. I sometime use it in summer for carrying around small objects like documents, money, keys, mobile phone etc.
The only reason I bear with it is because I paid it very little and it fits my girlfriend cameras so now this case is practically hers and I have none for my own S5 for which, I remind you, this case is exclusively designed for.

CONCLUSIONS

Would I suggest its purchase? For £14 and more surely NOT ! This bag is just not worth that price. Still if you can find it for less I believe this is quite a handy little bag. The material and manufacture are good, plenty of space for anything smaller than a Canon S5 (which is to say, anything that is not a reflex camera) and with the advantage of the belt loop and the two-height strap.
However my rating HAS to be low because for it's purpose it is just not good at all. This case is designed for Canon S2, S3 and S5 cameras but it is hard to make my Canon S5 fit in it, it dosen't even look like it was made for it! There is no extra space even for a memory card and I find myself forced to purchase a bigger bag soon because this one won't do. If I had paid £14 (or more) I would be RAGING! But since it cost me £4 only and it will fit my girlfriend's camera easily I consider myself quite lucky.

You would expect high standards from original brand and "made-for" camera bags but this is clearly not the case. It is a really disappointing product considering its purpose and Canon should really consider re-designing it.
