I moved to this camera from a Canon Ixus Z70 (non digital) and thought that I would have to go some to beat that camera. This camera more than exceeded my expectations - it uses all of its 4.1 megapixels to good effect. If you want a reliable, easy-to-use good looking camera with plenty of useful features then this is the camera for you. It takes photos up to size A4 fine quality and will take up to A3 (though I would think that the average amateur photographer would not have the capability to print high quality photos this size. I particularly like the fact that the menus are simple to use and, once you get to know which feature is where, actually assist you to take better photos! The camera guides you through the photo taking process but also has a manual over-ride should you feel the need to use your eye instead of the camera's. I particularly like the feature called "stitch assist" which enables you to shoot overlapping images (eg a wide view) and the camera seamlessly stitches the photos together for you. My photos have been perfectly colour - balanced and true to the subject. You can even shoot up to 3 mins in movie mode, using the built - in microphone (and speaker for instant playback). This feature is good fun, but I would say that this a novelty and not for the serious movie-maker. The LCD screen is clear and you can zoom in and out of photos in playback mode. You can also view 9 thumbnails of shots taken at any one time and flick through them quickly to find the shot that you want to view. Deletion of unwanted photos is quick, I like the fact that you have to perform two separate actions to delete to lessen the chance of accidental deletion. It has many useful features (too numerous to mention here)which are all fully explained in the comprehensive, easy-to-use Camera User Guide included. I am less happy with the red eye function. I still get red eyes turning up on some shots and have not yet got to the bottom of why this happens. I have a good photo package which allows me to remove red-eye but this might be an issue for you if you don't have access to a package such as this. I also thought that it was a bit mean of Canon not to provide a case for the camera, a branded one is £15 retail (surely far less for Canon) but does include a zip purse for spare battery (approx £25) and spare smartmedia cards. The camera includes a 32mb card which will take approx 28 fine resolution snaps. I bought 2 X 128mb which take 110 pictures each, the retail is about £50 but I picked mine up on the internet from a reputable company for £28 each. The software is brilliant and really easy to use. If you have a new enough printer you can connect the camera directly to the printer and print from the camera, though I must admit I prefer loading them on to my PC; you also get ArcSoft Camera Suite software free. A quirky feature which you might like is the ability to customise the start - up screen, sounds and menus by downloading schemes from the Canon website directly to the camera. All the cables that you need to connect to PC or printer are included. The battery charger is stand-alone and charges the long life battery in approx 1.5 hours. All-in-all, I would highly recommend this camera. It is compact, good looking and does what it should do (a rare quality nowadays). For the money I don't think you'll find such a feature-packed buy anywhere on the market. Do your homework on the internet and you'll pick it up for less than £400 excluding case and extra smartmedia cards.
