I've had my CanonIXUS 400 for a few months now and, while I'm no great photographer I've found it really fun and easy to use.
Appearance Well, of course it looks great. The hard metal casing makes it feel tough and well made. The screen at the back could be bigger but I guess on such a small camera, there wasn't much room.
Ease of Use At first I was a bit confused about what the buttons on the back did but after a quick look in the menu and a bit of playing around it became clear. If you just want to point and shoot this camera makes that really easy to do, but there's ways to change the settings to add to your pictures and feel like a real photographer! The menus are easy to access, just by pushing the menu button and then you just scroll through to the item you want. It did take a bit of practise to get used to fact that certain menus and options are only available in certain settings.
Picture Quality Well, this is the most important feature, isn't it? I think the picture quality is great. I have had a few printed and they do look good. Occasionally they have been a bit washed out but I think that's just about making usre you have the camera on the right exposure setting before you take the photo.
Battery Life I think my biggest complaint with this camera is the short battery life. The battery tends to go flat after a few hours (although this improved after it had been charged 3 or 4 times). Also, there is very little warning before the battery goes flat (again this has improved with a few charges, but it's still not great). The camera seems to lose functionality just before the battery goes, not recording pictures anymore.
Summary If you want an easy to use, easy to carry camera then I would definately recommend the Canon Ixus 400.
I just bought a Fujifilm Q1 Digital Camera - and I am amazed at what you can do - at present , though, I am trying to figure how to download the pictures using the USB lead provided - - my PC says "unknown device" at present... ≈≈≈≈{; -)-{{:::{||||||<
