I am not a camera specialist. I can be confused easily with the terminology of the digital world. This camera was bought for me 3 years ago, after the arrival of my son, I was keeping true printin business single handidly!!
I actually enjoy my camera and photography now I have a digital camera and would never go back to film - well who would!
The canon IXUS 400 is great it serves all my needs, there are newer models on the market but that will always be the case. Speaking of cases where is it - what a shame it didn't come with one. The camera itself was not cheap you think they could have stretched a bit further. my only other moan is the battery warning it is not long enough, one minute it tells you to change batteries then you blink it goes off! I have had to buy another back up battery - a cheap purchase from e.bay to combat this problem. Other than that the camera is great and I would be happy to recommend it to anyone.
I have used this camera I believe to its full potential. I use the video and tend to do a short video of my son once a month to show his growth which is nice and not tedious to watch back as each is only 4 -5 mins long, after recently purchasing a higher memory card to enable me to do so. I can recommend that you have 2 memory cards with one if you do a video you cannot take pictures as the memory will be used up. We went to Lanzarote over xmas so I needed lots of pics and a video of xmas pressie opening the 2 memory cards allowed this no problem, I even had footage space left to record our villa.
I especially like the macro option on the camera it allows you to take close up pictures, I use this for taking pictures of flowers it is amazing what you can create afterwards on the computer, I jazz them up a but, print them and frame them, the brighten up the hallway!
It takes lovely black and white photographs too which can add a twist to your photo album.
I also like the display on the camera I find them easy to see in all lights, my Mum has a digital camera - I forget which make, she will struggle to see on the screen what she is taking, especially inside at a function (lights and dark) or outside on a sunny day and mine is always clear to see.
The menu is clear and easy to understand, although when I got it I did sit down for the evening and try it all out! I only had to return to the manual once more to find out some info. The manual was very clear and I found any answers to queries quickly.
I like the fact that it is a metal carcass and not a plastic one, it has that quality feel, it has also been dropped a couple of times and suffered no damage at all. It is a nice size and fits in your pocket or nicely into a handbag. I would have never thought I would use mine as much as I do. Given its compact size it does get taken everywhere with me. It has plenty of miles on it and hopefully there are many more left in it.
