Having seen the results of previous Canon digital IXUS models from family members it was time for me to get one. The new 500 model seemed like a good model to choose. Sure enough having used the camera for some time I can see why the Canon's come so highly recommended.
The features are there for advanced users, but it is easy to for first time users like myself to use the camera. Having recently gone on holiday and taking loads of photographs of great scenery, as well as a few close up photos of wild life, the camera held up to expectations. The panoramic picture taker is really handy and the program that comes with the camera for stitching the photos together is incredible. I can not recommend enough the brilliance of this feature, it gives you the ability to take photos of so much more. Downloading the pictures onto a computer couldn't be simpler and nor could the ability to show them on a TV.
The build quality of the camera is high but the USB/AV out cover on one side can be fiddly. The camera feels solid when gripped and is really comfortable to hold with one hand.
This camera seems like the right choice for any user. Other family members can use it with simple direction and once you're familier with it, the camera can be used for more than expected. Truely a great camera for taking high quality photos easily.
