I bought my ixus 500 after using an ixus 400 that one of my work colleagues had. I was immediately impressed by the look and feel of the camera.
I bought it on the net and added the option of a 256Mb memory card option as I didn't think I'd have a use for the smaller 32Mb memory card.
When my camera arrived it had both the 256Mb and the 32Mb card. I have never yet needed the 32Mb card. I bought the Canon Case which was available as an option when I bought the camera but it wasn't cheap at £30!!
I was worried because I have large fingers and find some mobile phones difficult if the buttons are small and close together. I have not had any problems with any of the functions everything is intuative. I never read the instructions for anything. I have managed to take hundreds of pictures so far without once referring to the manual.
Both my daughters (aged 8 and 4) have used it and think its brilliant to. The only problem is they always want to look at each picture on the screen as soon as its taken before taking the next. The only problem I had is that we always ran out of battery charge in the middle of a day out. So I now have 2 spare batteries (which together were half the price of genuine canon batteries). and usually have one in the camera, one on charge and one in the pocket of the carrying case ready to use.
When using the highest resolution, files produced can be quite large (2Meg or so) But even on lower resolution the pictures are excellent.
We went to a Ball with some friends, 2 other couples, and I took pictures of each couple. I printed A4 copies for each couple on standard photo paper and they all thought they were as good as studio pictures (except one had the Fire Escape as a backdrop, but that wasn't the cameras fault).
I also used it to do my daughters passport photos which were excellent.
My PC has a slot so I can remove the memory card from the camera and plug it straight into the PC. But otherwise there is a cable included to plug in the usb port and software to transfer the pics.
This is the best camera I ever owned and I would unreservedly recommend it to everyone.
