Although I use this camera for my artwork at school, I would porbably not reccomend it for any particularly porfessional photography. It has 6 mexapixels which I found perfectly sufficient for everyday use. The film quality was also quite good, but once again not for any profesional use. Taking films also took up quite a lot of the memory, and this is definitely not the right type of camera to use if you plan on using it to take long films (more than about ten minutes).
One of the camera's best features is its size... small enough to fit in any handbag or rucksack, and in my experience a lot of pockets aswell, however not with the case. I wouldn't recommend not using the case, as other people I know who have the same or similar canon ixus cameras have found that the screen seems to either chip underneath somehow, and cause small white marks on it, or just roughly scratch all over it, causing it to lose the its 'pristine shine'!
However, this shininess of the screen is also one of the camera's few bad points, as in conditions with a lot of light it becomes very difficult to see the screen. Normally the screen is very good though, and a plenty big enough size to see images that you have taken, but small enough that the camera's small size is not effected.
The camera's features installed in it were very diverse. I was able to experiment with various different photo effects, such as sepia, b/w, and various other colour effects. (My favourite of which was the 'colour accent', with which I was able to have an entire image black and white apart from one colour which I selected... for the artistic type, very fun! )
Although I did have to wait quite a few hours for the battery to charge, before I was able to use the camera (but I cheated slightly and didn't let it completely charge! (0= ) I found the camera relatively easy to use, but this ws probably affected by the fact that I had previously had a Canon Ixus 55! None the less, the camera was easy to use, and I picked it up without reading much of the instruction manual. A lot of the symbols on the camera a pretty self explanitary, and the menus too. In addition to what I was saying about the battery of the camera, one slight problem with the camera is that there is no battery meter, but just a flahing battery symbol on the screen when the battery life gets very low. This can be quite annoying, but a simple way to avoid the battery running out at inapropriate times is just to charge it whenever you can to insure the battery is full.
The auto focus makes the camera very easy to use even for a beginner photographer! There is a slide switch on the back that allows you to switch between camera, film, and playback, and once you have it on the right mode it is very easy to get the camera working and take a picture or film. The only TINY problem I found was with the fact that you have to press down the shoot button to let the camera focus, and then press it down further to actually take the picture. However, this took little time to get used to, and was merely a problem when you ask someone to take a picture for you, then they give the camera back and later on you realise they havn't actually taken the photo!
The way the picture continued to be displayed after you have taken it for a few second (time can be altered) was also particularly useful for checking the photo quickly, without having to switch to playback mode.
Another thing that was in some wasy good, but at other times rather annoying, was the way the camera cleverly recognised which way up the camera was held when the photo was taken, and then turns it the right way up for you to see when you look back at it. My only problem with this was when photos were taken at funny angles, sometimes the camera woudl turn the photo the wrong way round, and so far I haven't found a way to resolve this, although I must admit I still haven't read the manual!
The camera is very uselful for taking quick photos, and can also be turned onto a 'multiple shots' mode with which I was able to take photos in rapid succession. I found this very useful for taking action shots, especially for my art.
Finally, the computer software which came with the camera is all very good. I found downloading pictures onto my computer with it extremely easy - it came with a simple program which organises your photts into dates, however you can easily rename and sort them yourself, and it also allows you to make and lay out pages or booklets of your photos (For example holdiay photos, or a special occassion) which I found very useful.
All in all in my opinion the camera is excellent. Particularly good for a first camera for anyone, but I definitely would stop anyone else form buying it because it is too simple, as it is very useful for anyone.
Excellent for taking on trips, holidays, days out, or anything like the for it portability, but with high quality photos too.
On account of the price, I would agree with many people that in the big mainstream shops it is quite expensive, and PERHAPS not worth the great price if you're not going to use it all the time. I infact bough mine from ebay, and got a very good deal for it, and I would recommend anyone else to try and find a better deal than main shops.
To conlude, an excellent camera that I would definitely recommend!
Advantages: Stylish, Easy to Use, Good Image Quality Disadvantages: Price (look for a good deal), Not the latest model
...have since upgraded to a Canon 30D which we take on holiday and have taken some wonderful pictures. I give you this background simply so that you understand what I am using my Ixus 60 for. Not for taking artistic landscapes or perfect portraits - I use the big camera for that. I chose a small camera simply for portability.
Why this one? Well as I have said, we already have a Canon SLR and we are very happy with it. I also know quite a few people ... ...get all that from the canon website if you need it, but I will briefly review what I've used of the multitude of options. There are loads of preset circumstance options which I haven't really used - except when bored on a long car journey. The colour accent option which picks out one colour and makes the rest black and white hasn't lived up to much so far in my experiments and I suspect the effect could be much more easily achieved with photoshop ...

Advantages: Build quaility, easy to use, features Disadvantages: price
I recently purchased the Canon IXUS 60. It is a six megapixel digital camera with a three times optical zoom lens. The camera is a ultra compact digital camera which fits in the pocket very well.
The build quality of this camera is impressive and it is also one of the more expensive cameras compared to others in its category . There are one or two interesting features, but the camera remains very easy to use. This is why it appealed to me, it is ... ...and software are supplied by Canon to connect the IXUS 60 to a computer, television set and a PictBridge compatible printer.
My only problem with the camera was the price £ 129.99, most of the cameras in the same league as this where £30 - £40 pound cheaper but saying that they did not have anywhere near as many features. All said i am not sorry i bought this, i have had a lot of fun snapping away.... ...

Advantages: Very durable, good quality photos, outstanding. Disadvantages: Colour changes provided are not amazing but OK.
...menu. One cool little feature Canon has introduced is Sound Memo, in which you can record a memo for a picture and view it later on camera or computer. You also have the ability to protect images so other people will not be able to view it without Canon Zoombrowser. You can also rotate the image if you've taken it at a weird angle and the auto-rotate feature has put it in a weird position. And finally, the good old Erase All.
In the other sections ... ...you can get from a Canon Digital IXUS 60. For your information, if you manage to get the camera completely mesmerized in water, then the first thing you should do is leave it in a airing cupboard. I tried to work it afterwards and it was hard to press certain buttons, and if it works, you wouldn't get very far. Leave it in the airing cupboard for at least a good few hours, wait for it to fully dry and test. My screen got a little bit damaged around ...

...compact. I bought the Canon IXUS 60 in December '08, and was deeply impressed with the ultra-compact size, build quality and stunning images! Canon have always had a great reputation for accurate colour reproduction and natural tonality, and this little camera fails to disappoint. Please consider that more megapixels does not necessarily equal better image quality, and compact cameras over 6mp introduce noise artifacts due to cramming too many pixels ... ...stumped up the extra to choose this model over the current equivalents, and if you can audition one you will see why this could be the right decision. The IXUS 60 is still one of the ultra-compacts to beat in my opinion, and it's difficult to think that anyone could feel let down by this cute little package. ...
