I bought this camera as I needed a new camera fast! It takes sd memory cards which is a plus as these are the cheapest ones to buy. The camera itself is very competitively priced for the size and features. It is a small camera suitable for your handbag or pocket on nights out and not too heavy either. The camera at first I found quite fiddley to use with all the buttons are on one big round button so you have to be quite precise this does take some getting used to and I find it really easy to use now. This might be something to bear in mind if you're buying this for a young/elderly person who might find this difficult to grasp. The camera has a range of functions which enable you to be a complete beginner when it comes to photography or it also has a manual setting for the more advanced photographers. I aren't a protographer yet have still managed to test things out by trial and error and get excellent results from the manual setting.
The camera has an excellent battery life of about a week - this was a week using it every day whilst travelling. The one negative that I can think of is that it doesn't tell you when the battery is running low, although I know that they now do this on newer models. The LCD screen can be switched off to save the battery life and even when the battery is very low you can still last for a good half a day with no screen - slightly old school photography but at least you can still take pictures.
The video quality on the camera is excellent and the sound is superb too - far better than I expected.
The specification of the camera is as follows:
* Product Description: Canon Digital IXUS 70 - digital camera * Product Type: Digital camera - point and shoot * Dimensions (WxDxH): 8.6 cm x 1.9 cm x 5.4 cm * Weight: 125 g * Supported Flash Memory: MultiMediaCard, SD Memory Card, SDHC Memory Card * Sensor Resolution: 7.1 Megapixel * Shooting Modes: Frame movie mode * Lens Aperture: F/2.8-4.9 * Focus Adjustment: Automatic * Min Focus Range: 30 cm * Focal Length: 5.8 mm - 17.4 mm * Optical Zoom: 3 x * Digital Zoom: 4 x * Camera Flash: Built-in flash * Red Eye Reduction: Built-in * Microphone: Microphone - built-in * Viewfinder: Optical - real-image zoom * Display: LCD display - TFT active matrix - 2.5" - colour * Supported Battery: 1 x Li-ion rechargeable battery ( included )
I have put satisfactory for the instruction manual but haven't read it as have just managed to figure things out.
In short this is a basic camera for those who want a simple point and shoot, however it has the advanced features there for anyone wanting to learn.
