I bought one of these cameras about 3 weeks ago (actually it was bought for me by my family who all clubbed together to buy it as a 40th Birthday present).
I found it easy to use and very compact. It also took pretty good pictures - although there were a number of niggles with these.
I had heard comments that it was a dangerously fragile camera and best to be avoided, but I saw more comments about how it was made of metal rather than plastic and seems to be a sturdy item.
I wish now that I had listened to the warnings.
Today I knocked it off a table about 3 feet down to a carpeted floor. It was on at the time (I was trying to set up a self-timer shot) and the way the camera is balanced meant that it landed lens first. The lens mechanism is visibly damaged and all the camera will now do is beep and display a "lens error" message.
I dare say that it would cost nearly as much to repair this camera as it cost in the first place (everything seems to be designed to be disposable rather than repairable these days).
So I will simply return to my old trusty Kodak DC280 which still takes beautiful pictures despite its age and having been treated roughly for about 7 years - including being dropped more times than I could even begin to estimate, sometimes onto very hard surfaces and even into puddles.

If you drop an open camera onto its lens, then of COURSe it breaks.......
That's what insurance is for.
Don't blame the camera fror your own negligence and incompetence.
