Though it looks good the shaping took some getting use to. The camera has pretty much designed to be held in your right hand. The controls are situated on the right hand side to operated by your right thumb. I bought the IXUS 900ti from a local dealer as a replacement for my rather ancient IXUS 330. It is quite a revelation the technology has moved on an awful lot in 3 years.
The first thing I noticed was the size; the unit is a lot thinner, lighter, and elegantly nicely shaped than my old camera. The body is made from titanium (hence the TI suffix) making it very strong and rather shiny. The screen is also far superior over twice the size
Though it looks good the shaping took some getting use to. The camera has pretty much designed to be held in your right hand. The controls are situated on the right hand side to operated by your right thumb. While this is a pretty neat solutions giving you the entire controls set in one hand its slightly tricky for southpaws like me. Though after a few days of use I got accustomed to it.
The software on the camera has been vastly upgraded I especially liked the OSD (on screen display) effects and the way in which the camera flips viewed images dependant on what orientation your holding the it in. The menus are a lot more responsive than the older model and the shutter lag (time between pressing the button and the picture been taken) is hardly noticeable much better than the second or so on the older model. This allow point and shoot to be almost instantaneous so less likely you would miss a reaction shot.
There is also a multiple shot mode in which you can hold the button and the camera just keeps shooting (though you cant use the flash for this unless you have the mains adapter (which seem about as common as rocking horse dung).
Movie mode has been upgraded you can now film in 640x480 and 1024x768. The quality of the movies at the higher res moe is comparable with some compact video cameras. Though at high resolutions filming quickly fills up the memory card you would only get seconds on the bundled 32mb one.
Cannon bundle a rather pathetic 32mb SD card, you would think given the price they could have at least stretched to 512mb. You will need to upgrade this unless you lower the resolution right down. I bought a 1gb for 14.99 which fits around 250ish pictures dependant on the quality settings. You can get a 2gb card for around £35 + postage from places like amazon.co.uk and ebuyer.com. If you use the highest quality the images sizes are huge you could use them for high detail A3 prints.
This is a digital compact camera, while the image sensor is 10mp it does not produce pictures at SLAR quality. The optical zoom is adequate but limited and while the ISO settings can go quite high shooting in low light without a flash will result in noise on the picture. That said if like me you want a snap and go pocket camera this is certainly the business it looks great is small light easily transportable.
The price is at the high end but you are getting one heck of a camera for your money I think you would have to go prosumer / SLR level to better the images.
I didn't even look at the manuals, not do I use the cannon bundled software (I prefer Googles Picassa software to image browser) so I cant really comment on them

Addendum
I recently took this camera on holiday and noticed two annoyances which might affect your decision to purchase. Firstly there is no battery level indicator, so you have no idea your nearly out of juice until it runs out meaning you can miss shots unless your religious about charging. The second issue is that you cant charge over usb, this would be idea for on the road so I didnt need to carry the charging pack only the camera and a usb lead. This is pretty a minor annoyance but a valid one as a lot of devices can be charged over usb these days.
Advantages: Face Detection Feature, Great Lens, Easy to Use Disadvantages: Limited Optical Zoom, 32Mb SD card
Having used Canon products before with both digital cameras and camcorders, I expected the same attention to quality that I've had before - and Canon produced it yet again!
Containing a 10 megapixel camera, this camera is easy to use. This is a camera for those who want to take good quality pictures but without lugging a big camera around. There are two manuals supplied - a basic manual and a more in depth manual on a CD so it can cater for the ... ...is ok, but not outstanding. Canon expect you to use the digital zoom or the macro in conjunction with the 10 MP - not ideal, but it's ok. The other is a the very underwieght 32MB card supplied - I ordered a 1GB card which can host 250 pictures at 10MP in addition, but it adds to the cost as does the fact a case is extra on top. If Canon offered these two products, they would blow the competition even further out than they have already with these ...

Advantages: Small, powerful, versatile Disadvantages: Not much!
This is now the second Canon IXUS digital camera I have now owned, and I cannot recommend this range of cameras enough! The first one was the 4.0megapixel IXUS purchased 3 and half years ago, and I have never had any reliability problems with it. I expect this model to be no different. In keeping with the character of the IXUS range, the IXUS 900 TI is a great all round camera. It offers up to date and powerful zoom and picture quality features, ... ...of the qualities of the Canon is that I almost feel the camera does much of the work for me in turning out great photos! If you are an experienced and dedicated photographer who requires very high specs and certain features, you would/should not be looking at this camera. Advantages: Compact Camera Disadvantages: Very poor reliability
...has been back to the Canon service centre 5 TIMES for repair.
The first time it was returned to the Canon service centre it was lost it all together.
They replaced it but that is when all my troubles began!
Five times it has been back to Canon at Elstree!!!
Last night 20/10/07 it failed again for the 6th time and I now await the usual padded envelope from Canon to return it yet again.
The lastest fault on screen says "Lens Error"

Advantages: Great shots Disadvantages: menu learning curve
I have had this camera for a couple of months now and have taken some amazing pictures. The anti shake feature came in handy whilst my hands were freezing in iceland, beautiful clear pictures indoor and out. The manual settings are a little more confusing as in all cameras but come in very handy when taking night shots and fast action. Zoom is very good with 3x optical and 12x digital. Quality can still be bery good with digital zoom as the camera ...
