Intro ==== The IXUS i is the first digital camera I've owned; its looks and high photo quality caught my eye.
The camera came in a small box; supplied in addition to the camera was various documentation, a 32MB SD memory card, battery & charger, TV connector cable, USB (PC) connector cable, and a variety of software for your PC, of which I will discuss later.
Aesthetics ======== The camera is stunning, and very well designed. There are few cameras that compare in size and weight at the 4.0 mega pixel point. The metal body of the camera adds to the look, whilst the front of the camera has a brushed finish. The camera comes in four different colours - each equally stylish - allowing you to choose a camera that matches you. These are Platinum Silver, Piano Black, Classic Bronze and Pearl White - the latter three of which are limited edition. I chose Platinum Silver, because I was purchasing through the internet, and had only physically seen the Platinum Silver variation so I wasn't sure if I would prefer one of the other colours.
Functionality ========== This camera is a 4.0 mega pixel camera - which means it can take pictures at a 1704x2272 resolution! This results in stunning detailed photographs, when photos are taken with superfine detail. These are more than good enough for A4 prints - possibly A3, but I don't have an A3 printer to test! Personally, rate the quality of the photographs as superb.
However, the camera does not have optical zoom - only 5.7x digital zoom. I simple terms, optical zoom zooms before you take the photo, whilst digital zoom zooms afterwards. This of course means that digital zoom has rubbish quality! This is the biggest let down of the camera, however the fact it is a 4.0 mega pixel camera partially makes up for it.
Photo taking features include a handy 10 self-timer, for when you don't have an extra person around. Of course, you can set the flash to automatic, or manual. The camera has different photo taking modes. You can just leave everything on automatic, but if you are a photo geek its all there for you to adjust, including shutter speed, exposure, daylight mode etc. One of the photo taking modes is macro - this allows you to take perfectly focused photos from a 3cm distance! Another notable one is stitch adjust. This allows you to take multiple photos, and stitch them together using the supplied Canon PC software, resulting in a single panoramic image.
This camera can also take short films (with sound!). These are of a reasonable quality, with the highest resolution being 320x240, but certainly not great!
The camera is also highly customisable - you can configure it to display light distribution histograms and other shooting information after you take photos, and even customise the cameras start-up picture and sound, and even the shutter sound. So its a very personalisable camera. When viewing your photos you can also rotate them - however, the camera is slow at doing this.
Other features of the camera include a video out so you can connect it to your big screen TV to with your photos and videos. The camera also comes with a USB lead to connect it to your PC. You can then transfer photos to your PC, print your photos, etc. However, the USB lead is not necessary if you have a SC card reader.
The camera comes a 32MB SD card as standard - however I would recommend getting a larger one. I am using a 256MB card, but you don't really need one that large either :) I would recommend you buy your SC cards on the internet, it is far cheaper.
The camera has a reasonably sized 1.5" LCD - mine had a dead pixel though! Of course, the camera also has a rechargeable battery. You can also connect the camera directly to compatible printers - so you can print without the need to turn your computer on! A very useful feature.
Usability ======= The camera is very easy to use and is not cluttered with buttons. on the top of the camera you have the on/off button, and a unique two-level focus/shoot button. If you press this button half-way, the camera will focus first and show you the focal point.
On the back of the camera, you have a D-pad. This is used for zooming, adjusting flash and self timer when you are in shooting mode. When you are in "playback" mode (viewing your pictures), it navigates and, deletes photos.
The other two buttons on the back are the set and menu button. The menu button allows you to adjust general settings. In photo mode, the set button allows you to adjust shooting settings, whilst in playback mode it allows you to control zooming and panning the photo.
I personally find this system easy to use for general use. When in automatic mode, you can literally just point and shoot. Same for taking videos. Viewing photos is easy also, you can view photos one by one, or a a gallery mode with 9 on display at once. Still, though, it is cumbersome searching for a specific photo. The system to zoom/pan photos in playback mode is a bit unintuitive though.
Also, to charge the battery you must remove it from the camera. A minor annoyance, but charging time is low (less than an hour I think).
Software ======= Canon provides a variety of software with this camera. There's PhotoRecord which allows you to create photo albums. PhotoStitch allows you to stitch those photos you took in stitch assist together. All you have to do is load the photos in order, and the software will do the rest automatically! A very ingenious innovation. There is also ZoomBrowserEx which allows you to download, browse and print your photos. There is also Mac software supplied, and are a few other less notable packages.
Reliability & Support ================ I have had the camera for about six months. It hasn't given me any problems whatsoever, so I also haven't had any reason to obtain support from Canon.
Any other bad points? ============ In terms of photos, I observed that some bending was present. Nothing too bad, but it was noticeable when a photo was taken with a vertical object (like a pillar) along the edge of the photo. Also no case is supplied - it costs about £15 extra.
Conclusion ========= To be honest, the main reason I bought this camera was because it looked so nice. Possibly, your buying habits would be different and so you may rather get a more functional camera, for the same price, that doesn't look as nice, and is a bit bigger and heavier. For me though, it was definitely money spent wisely. I spent £170 on it online, it seems to be about £165 now.
Its worth noting that Canon have now brought out an iXUS I5 model which is the same as this one but with 5.0 mega pixels and a couple of other slightly better features. This, however, is nearly £100 more expensive.
Advantages: Small, chic, light Disadvantages: No optical zoom
I've owned my Ixus for about a month now, and have to say I have been impressed by it. I'm not a photography professional by any stretch of the imagination, so this review is based on my own, personal opinion.
Appearance
The camera comes immaculately presented in a branded box. The camera itself is stunning. It has a metal body with a brushed finish that won’t get marked easily. The front does not have (too) many logos plastered all over it, as ... ...nice, with a reasonable sized screen and good quality buttons. This is let down slightly by a plastic toggle switch that feels a little on the cheap side. On the whole, it is stunning and pictures don’t do it justice - you have to see it with your eyes to really get an idea of how desirable it is. Of course, it is available in different colours, some of which are limited edition and look even better than the standard silver.

Advantages: Decent price Disadvantages: Not too many
...a decent digital camera, the Canon Digital Ixus 400 is offered for sale at Amazon at less than £250 according to Google, although when you click the link, the Amazon says disappointingly, “This item is not in stock or has been discontinued”, although it goes on to offer new and used versions at just £220. I daresay that all that will soon change, however. Kelkoo suggests prices in excess of 300 notes, unfortunately. Best advice is to shop around.
... ...(see picture at http://www.dcresource.com/reviews/canon/powershot_s400-review/). Canon boast that the body comes with a Super Hard Cerabrite case, which is substantially more damage resistant than most other cameras.
It also offers the neat touch of being able to shoot short videos with sound, although if you really want such things then you’d be better getting a proper DV camera. Being jack of all trades can often mean you’re master of none, but ...

Advantages: Great photos taken quickly and easily, small and quite long battery life Disadvantages: Has to be charged in dock
A fantastic camera that has served me well for over a year now (and seems to have retained its value as I bought it for £180 last year)!
There are many things that make this a great camera - first of all it is available in many different colours and is ultra-slim and small in width, fitting into the smallest of pockets so there's no need for a case.
The quality at 5MP is enough for most users and it's fast start up time and ease of use means that the perfect picture is never missed! Short videos can also be taken and they are of good qualiy also.
Reviewing photos is very easy and zoom is available so details can be made out clearly. The battery life is excellent and has lasted me over a week whilst on holiday and to charge it only needs a maximum of 3 hours in it's dock.
Overall this stylish camera is great for anyone looking ...
Advantages: Small, compact and lightweight. Disadvantages: Size of memory card shipped with it
This is one of the first proper digital camerasI have owned and its is perfect for travelling with, being small and compact its lightweight enough to keep in a pocket or hang around your neck. The cradle for uploading/charging is small enough to not get in the way on any computer desk. Although it can be a little easy to knock over and dislodge the camera.
The screen is clear and a good size to ensure your shot is picture perfect, with multiple functions that you'd hope to find on any quality digital camera, such as zoom, panoramic, close up, night, a good function for pets and children to capture moving shots without the bluring. Also to adjust the size of the image.
The unforunate thing about this camera is it is only shipped with an 8mb memory card. Comes with a remote control. ...

This is the exact camera that i am the proud owner of.
If anyone is thinking of buying a camera then this is the one.
I have never owned my own digital camera before and thought that if i wanted one that had a decent resolution and great features, then i would have to fork out a load of money.
But as i walked through the door of my local jessops, i was greeted with a smile and was asked if i was looking for anything inpaticular. I said to the assistant that i needed a camera with a long exposure length specifically for an art project that i was working on. He didnt even spend time showing me any of the digital SLR's that were worth well over £1000, he took me straight to the IXUSI7 i fell in love with it the moment i saw it.
He exclaimed to me that everyone else that worked in jessops owned there own I7.
He then showed me ...
