Introduction
The Canon Ixus V3 is a 3.2 mega pixel digital camera which has been out for over 4 years. It is a small and compact camera with a 1.5 inch LCD screen and easy to use camera taking facilities; it also has a very useful viewfinder which I use more than the LCD screen.
Appearance
It is a very compact camera which is sleek and stylish whilst also being very easy to use. It ahs a very nice canon badge on the front, I also like the appearance of the back, with the buttons being very large but also nice to look at. It comes in a silver colour which is very shiny and catches the eye.
Instructions/Ease of installation
It was very easy to set up as I just switched the control to automatic which adjusts to the best possible setting. The CD is very easy to set up, it uses a program called Zoom Browser, which makes transferring pictures from the camera to the computer very easy, it also has a CF card which is very useful, the one that I got was 16mb which isn’t really big enough but you can buy a bigger one at a competitive price on eBay, or from Curry’s. when installing the camera hardware on the computer, it was quite slow to do but it got there eventually.
Usability
The camera is extremely easy to use and can either be put on the automatic setting or the user changeable setting. There are many different settings that you can change in order to get the best out of your camera, varying from the flash level to the red eye compensation. When taking a picture, you can either use the LCD screen or the view-finder. There is a very easy to use zoom and can go up to 6 xs, and it also keeps the quality. You can also use different quality settings, but this affects the amount of pictures that you can store. The camera taking facility is extremely easy to use, and it only consists of pressing a large button.
Performance
The quality is not brilliant, but considering it is a 3 mega pixel camera it is very good quality. The quality when printing is extremely good, except when the picture is taken at very low resolution, the quality is very pixelated. When taking the picture the photo is very well defined on the LCD screen which is big enough as it is. It is extremely durable and doesn't cratch very easily, I also find it very reliable and it has never broken.
Value for Money/Comparison to Competitors
I paid £250 for the camera which when I look back was far too much and compared to what you would pay today for a better quality camera would be about half of what I paid, but would be twice the quality, if not more. Compared to other competitors around the quality it is excellent and has a better quality than 5 mega pixels but only if they’re a cheap make. If you were to buy a camera now for the price that I paid back then you would probably be able to get a much better performance.
Summary/Opinion
I think that it is a very good camera, however it is now very outdated and you can get a much better camera instead. I find the camera to be extremely easy to use and of an excellent camera for the amount of mega pixels. When I use the camera, I found that it is extremely easy to take pictures, and easy to install on the computer, it also gave an excellent printing quality on a high resolution. Overall I think in the modern times I give the Camera 6.5/10 because it is only 3 mega pixels, but when it was first made it would’ve earned 9/10.

...MEMORY CARD (2/5)
As standard, Canon only supplies a 16MB CF card with this camera, which is inadequate if you want to shoot movies or take a lot of (high-res) pictures. I also bought a 128MB CF card (£31.99).
CAMERA MENUS (5/5)
The on-camera menus are good - easy to navigate around and to find what you are looking for.
STILL PICTURE QUALITY (4/5)
I have limited experience of digital cameras so don't know how this camera compares for picture ... ...not every language they do!
Canon Camera Manual: small, very good
Software manual: OK, but doesn't tell you how to use VideoImpression and PhotoImpression. Also, it has contents pages throughout the manual (i.e. per section) making it difficult to find what you are looking for.
ACCESSORIES (3/5)
It's a shame that Canon don't provide a case for this camera. You can buy one for about £16. ...

I put off buying a digital camera for ages - I was worried about quality more than anything. It wasn't until the 3 megapixel plus designs started to arrive when I started to take notice.
Many friends had brought digital cameras already, including models by Sony, Sharp and Fuji - so I was reasonably familiar with what was on offer already. None of them really tempted me though.
Then I saw the digital Ixus (II). How cute! Beautiful metal casing, ... ...I needed was an excuse to buy one.
Then, when out mountain bikng in Derbyshire, the excuse came as I flew over the handlebars and landed on my back, where my trusty Minolta compact 35mm camera nestling in the rucksack smacked into a large slab of limestone. In no time at all I was onto E-bay where I found the new V3 on offer for £284.00. To my joy, it was even better looking and built than the II - in a very smart Titanium finish.

I purchased the Canon Ixus v3 in feburary this year. i consider it money well spent. Compared to other "user friendly" digital cameras of a similar price, i would say this is the best of them. the camera is very small, and not too heavy or light. it fits easily into a handbag or pocket, which i find great - the joy of digital is being able to pull it out and shoot many quick shots. the case is mostly metal, and very sturdy. some components (mainly ... ...USB cable cover, however, is a flexable type of rubber, and is tethered by only a corner, so i am careful when using it.
the isxs is very easy to use with the pre-set settings. it has manual zoom and digital zoom. although the 6x digital zoom can leave the pics looking a little grainy on the LCD, i find that once uploaded this isnt the case, but it does depend on ambient light etc. it is possible to override the presets but the camera revets to ...

I was lucky enough to win this camera in a competition.
I have been using this camera now for a year and a half and have been very happy with the all round quality of this product.
Specs include 3.2Mpixel, 2x Digital Zoom.
Picture quality is very sharp, and the colours on the photos taken are very accurate. It also features a stitch up feature which allows you to take photos of a panoramic view and stitch the photos together.
Another good feature ... ...3 minutes of video on a 256Mb Compact Flash card. Video is recorded at up to 640x480.
The small size of the camera allows it to be carried in pockets easily and is not cumbersome.
The silver look of the camera gives it a professional and modern look.
The instruction manual is both informative and easy to understand, covering all features of the camera. ...

I have been using this camera for about 2 years now, and I really love it.. It's compact size and dimensions means that I can slip it into my pant's pockets and take it everywhere with me. Even though newer, smaller models have been released, I still like the size of the Ixus V3, as the smaller cameras tend to be lighter, and it's a lot harder to take a steady shot if the camera is too light. The metal body gives the camera a very solid feel, and ... ...Personally, I've dropped the camera twice, and it's still alive.
One of the first things you need to do after buying the camera is to get a new CF card. 16mb is not enough for anybody! I take my pictures at a resolution of 2048 X 1536, and it's about 800kb per picture. That means the 16mb card can only hold about 20 pictures. I recommend getting at least a 128mb card. Most cameras are capable of taking videos, and this is no exception. However, ...

at some of its rivals, firstly the Kodak LS 443 or the Casio QV-R4, costs a little more, looks okay and have a superior spec. Or the CanonDigitalIxusV3, this is the only camera that looks better in my opinion, but it?s a shame that it only has a 2x optical zoom lens and is only a 3 Megapixel camera, you can pick this up for just over £300 if you look hard enough! You could also go for the KD-500z or look for a KD-310 (which I have only seen on the internet), a 3 Megapixel equivalent.
