Well, what to say. this lens is absolutely worthy of its L stamp. There is always a choice to make for anyone looking at the 70 200 L group of lenses.
what i would say, is, regardless of whether you choose the f/4 or f/2.8, ensure you get an image stabilised version. the IS on these lenses are second to none. I had to make the coice of f/4 or f/2.8 and decided to spend the extra cash on the 2.8.
Zooming is internal, smooth and controlled, auto focus is super fast and accurate, with full time manual focus meaning if you need slight adjustment in focus, theres no fiddling around with AF switches on the lens.
I hired both this and the 2.8 IS II and although there was a difference in the IS capability, it did not warrant me spending the extra £400 for the upgrade.
The quality of the glass is also incredible in this lens, you will instantly notice how sharp your images are from this lens. Pin sharp is a phrase i rarely use, but this is what describes the images produced from this lens.
The lens is built like a tank, it is heavy and solid, no worries about little knowcks damaging it. The best lens in my collection by far, the only problem i have is affording a 24 - 105 IS L to complete my range while maintaining quality.
