Bought this EOS 100FN about 3 to 4 years ago. It was the latest flavour of the month then and I paid quite a bit for it. I know it has dropped in price now so if you can get hold of a second hand one you will be quids in - especially if you are a beginner in photography.
I liked it because it offered the functionality of an automatic - settings for close-up, action shots, etc. plus the options of tuning settings and turning it into a manual SLR.
You can get some rather nice automatic lenses too which focus if you set them to that. You can use them like any other lense when the autofocus is switched off. Nice!
I know there are far better cameras coming out now - but I do recommend this one as I have had no trouble with it at all and the shots I have managed to get have been great.
Overall - great for the beginner/intermediate photographer - you will move on to greater things eventully but this provides a good point to start. I won't swap till this one goes to that great developing room in the sky...
Advantages: Too many to list. Ease of use and friendly layout. Disadvantages: None I can think off
...can accept lenses made by Canon or from Sigma. I don't know if any other manufacturers lenses can be used but since these two are the only companies that I have bought the lenses from I can't comment about any one else. Sigma lenses are much cheaper than Canon and are just as good. Obviously using Canon has its advantages. ...

Advantages: Build, reliability, image quality, functions, the name & value for money especially second hand Disadvantages: to heavy for some, slightly noisy focusing, lenses and flash units expensive
...I owned a Nikon F301 in my teens and that camera was brilliant!
I then caught the Auto focus bug and purchased a CanonEOS100 which took brilliant pictures nearly as good as the Nikon and the auto focus was ultra fast and you could hardly hear it focusing, the Nikon is not as quiet but not to noisy.
Anyway i like the sound of the motordrive being loud.
The thing that really bugged me about the Canon was that it was TOO lightweight! It felt like a toy and very plasticy.
I was sure that if I dropped it that would be the end of it!
So after a couple years I was tempted back to a good solid Nikon.
At the time the F90x was recieving rave reviews in the press and that was good enough for me.
On getting it out the box the first thing I noticed is the weight of the thing! Which to me is a good thing..it feels as expensive as it...

Advantages: Nice Build. Quick and easy menus/scene modes. Good quality images. Disadvantages: Deleting images can be a tiring task.
...After using several film SLR cameras, and advanced digital compacts, I thought it was about time I save up for my first DSLR. I take my photography quite seriously, so I needed something that was within my budget and produced good quality images.
The first thing I noticed about the camera, is the build. I liked how sturdy it was, yet not too heavy that it'd become a nightmare to carry around. It was just perfect for me. I had tried using my friend's CanonEOS 350D, which I found far too lightweight, and the Pentax K100D was that extra bit heavier, which I found far better to use; especially when adding bigger lenses.
When I opened the box, I got the camera started straight away. The menu's were simple enough to get used to, and within moments, I felt like I'd been using it for months.
The FN button, allows you to quickly change...

This is sophisticated a camera and as such is not really suitable for absolute beginners, but at £700 I can’t imagine many beginners buying it. To get the most out of it, you need to know your f stops from your ISO setting. There are no muppet... more
