The Canon 10D is the third DSLR of the xxD line by Canon, which now contains 7 cameras. In my opinion the 10D is one of the best, for a number of reasons. The 6mp sensor allows prints to be made at A3 size or more, while reducing noise in the images. It also features a Magnesium Alloy body which feels very solid, and adds to the impression that this camera is more expensive than it actually is - it can be found very cheaply now from eBay or professional camera dealers. The 3 frames per second is more than enough for shooting action sequences, from children's school sports days to F1 and airshows. One of the downsides of the 10D is that it takes a fairly long time to start up, which can lead to missed shots. The images the 10D produces are of very high quality, with comparitavely low noise at high ISO presenting perfectly useable shots up to ISO 800. Battery life is impressive, but can be improved by using the optional BG-ED3 battery grip, which holds two batteries and contributes to the excellent handling, even when coupled with large telephoto lenses. Another disadvantage is that users upgrading from small conpact cameras may find the 10D to be large and bulky, but it is no more so than any other cameras of similar specification, and the extra size and weight is a small price to pay for drastically improved photos. Becuse the camera uses an APS-C size sensor, all lens focal lengths are multiplied by 1.6x, which is great news for sports and action photographers, but those own wide-angle lenses may find that they are not so wide when coupled with the 10D. To sum up, the Canon 10D is one of Canon's best DSLRs to date, with superb quality images and handling, only let down by small details such as a long startup time. A solid 9/10.
